Birth Control Suggestions???

Wondering what options are available for birth control after RNY? I've read that the pill isn't as effective. Anybody have any ideas or what do you use besides the obvious of condoms?? Thanks

You could use a diaphragm or IUD. I am done having children, so my husband had a vasectomy.

I will look into Mirena, thanks! How does the IUD work..how long does it stay in? Did you have any side effects?

Mirena lasts ~5 years. The package says 5 years but my ob/gyn says up to 6 is safe It's inserted in the office (which will leave you feeling like you've effectually been murdered. Seriously. Hurts. A lot).
But it really is a 'set it and forget it' option. Its in there. It hangs out. That's it.
Some people have it migrate and terrible things can happen, but so can they with every other method of contraception too. i.e. I had a DVT with Nuvaring 6 years ago. I'm on my second Mirena and love it a lot... but not those few days after insertion. Sweet Jesus its not a pleasant feeling.

Another vote for IUD. I think they are used by something like 200 million women worldwide. It's a proven safe form of birth control. Like any medical intervention, there is a low risk of adverse side effects.

Thanks for your input! I am going to do some research on it.. :)
I'm another vote for the Mirena. Best choice ever. The Mirena is not the same as the old copper IUDs. I have had a diaphragm and was on the pill as well. I went from week long heavy horrible periods to periods that are almost non-existent. Even if by some miracle my husband got a vascextony, I'd keep my Mirena. ?
RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

Losing the regain! I got this!
