Anyone have great pre op weight loss but slowed after surgery?
Good Sunday morning all!
I had my RNY on 10/20 - while on the liquid pre op diet I lost 22 lbs in 2 wks and was thrilled. In the hospital I gained 7 lbs! Post op course has been uneventful and I progressed through full liquids, now on pureed. Always protein first, then veggies. I've lost but sooooo much slower. Over the past week I've essentially stayed the same. Up 0.4, down 0.2, etc. I guess I got spoiled pre op losing about 2 lbs/day. Has this happened to anyone else?

Weight loss definitely slows down-- but this seem a bit early for you. Keep doing what your doing and ride it out. I think people throw the term stall around too easily. A stall is 3 or more weeks of no change. I'd just accept this as insight as to how it will be more consistently the further out you get.
how are you doing with drinking water? How many grams of protein are you getting in/day?

Ok, that sounds better re a stall being 3 or more weeks of no change. I probably need to get in more water so will work on that. It's hard to time it between meals! Doing fine with protein - 60 or more grams/day. Maybe should push that up a little too. Had my first egg today and that went well so that will be a good protein booster for me. Thanks Peach!

Hi,
I gained weight after surgery on 10/24/16. I stayed above my surgery day weight for about 10 days. I started taking one psyllium capsule with my morning pills and one with my night pills (my general doctor recommended). After a couple of days and getting much more regular, I started losing weight almost every day. Now after 20 days total, I'm 10 pounds under my surgery weight.
Check with your doctor to see if he's ok with it. If yes they sell two big jars of Psyllium capsules at Costco, cheap.

I was a slow loser (even one of the medical residents at my clinic told me that - not what I wanted to hear!). But I lost 57 lbs before surgery and I'm a post-menopausal female - all factors that have the potential to slow you down. BUT...I've lost 215 lbs. Just stick to your program. It will come off if you're diligent...
It's not uncommon for people who have a bigger loss pre-surgery to have a slower loss after than those who didn't have a big loss prior. I hope that makes sense. My brain is set on "duh" today.
I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

It happened to me. I lost 40 lbs in 8 months right before surgery. When I was weighed at the surgeon's office the following week I was the same as going in. If I read this right you have taken off another 20 lbs in a month??? That is not slow! You are doing great! It will come off. Just follow YOUR plan set in place by your surgeon. I started slow but was at goal in 6 months and now am at my lowest BMI for my height. Just stay the course!
