RNY vs gallbladder removal

I had my gallbladder out a few years ago and will be having RNY soon. How do the surgeries compare pain and recovery wise? Was one easier than the other or are they similar?

RNY recovery is harder. But it's not bad, really. I felt more sore, had more swelling, needed pain meds for a few days, whereas with my gallbladder I just felt RELIEF after surgery. (My gallbladder was infected. I was seriously read to dig it out myself.) The hardest part of recovery from RNY for me was the two weeks of liquid diet afterwards.

LOL!! Oh my! I guess I was lucky to never have had a gallbladder attack or pain that I'm aware of. I hear they are incredibly painful! They just found a stone the size of a walnut(in the shell, huge) on an ultra sound and I was in surgery a week later. Can't wait to be on the other side! Thank you!
I had RNY nine years ago and was off work for a week. I had gallbladder removal this week on Wednesday and have a little soreness in the incisions but have not needed any pain pills.
Toughest surgery I had was tummy tuck. It was three weeks before I was out of pain and feeling normal.

Wow you are a champ and pro! For my gallbladder surgery all my core muscles were shot for a couple days then just a little sore for a few days more. I'm taking 2 weeks for RNY and hope its enough. Thank you!
I took 3 weeks for RNY and was back at my desk job without many issues. I think for me, it wasn't the physical issues after RNY so much, though I was more tired while my body healed, but it was getting used to the changes in my lifestyle that really took a while for me. Making sure I had the ability to drink and eat like I needed to, while juggling 2 kids, a hubby and a full time job was a bit rough.
It's major surgery, but barring any complications and getting used to the lifestyle quickly, you shouldn't have issues going back after 2 weeks.
I still have my gallbladder, but I know it's just a matter of time before I have to have it out.

I was originally going to take 3. I went back and forth. I don't have kids at home anymore, a pretty easy home life and a desk job I really love. I am worried about being tired, mostly because I have a 50 minute commute... Oh and bathroom issues at work, nobody wants that!! I'm hoping to have that issue figured out as well. I can always take more time off If I need to.

That is great to hear! I'm realistic, yet optimistic that everything will be fine.
