Surgery is the 22nd and I am starting to feel a lot of anxiety. I had an appointment on Monday and met with the nutritionist and the bariatric nurse and as she was explaining everything that was going to happen the day of surgery. I could feel my heart racing. Why am i freaking out??  I am very confident in my surgeon and her team. I need to just have faith and let them do their job.

I am meeting with my counselor next week. I am hoping she has some tools to help me deal with the anxiety.

I sure did. I was a mess all up until they said it's time to put you to sleep. I almost had my husband take me home... Seems normal to me. I very happy now.

Yep, perfectly normal.  I'd be more worried if I wasn't anxious - it's a major surgery and lifestyle change.

it is not abnormal to be freaked out some. Many are, I was not. I couldn't wait to get on the table and have the surgery.

You can ask for something to calm you down on the morning of surgery if you need it then.

Yes it's very normal. I was fine for the most part, but when I mentioned to the anesthesiologist that Ive never been put under, and didn't know what to expect. He then then got very serious and went through every step and assured me I wouldn't wake up or feel anything during surgery.

thanks buddy! I wasn't worried about that!! But now I am! I just wanted to know if I'd be pukey!

But like you said, you trust your team. And you know why you are doing this! That was a great comfort for me.

Yep, I was super nervous.  I was committed, so I wasn't thinking of backing out, but of course it's a surgery and a lifestyle change and nerve-wracking.

When I got to the hospital the day of surgery, they put the IV in and I expressed how nervous I was.  They put some magical thing in that needle that basically zenned me out!  It should be put in our water supply, whatever it was!  I highly recommend asking for some of that LOL.

Wasn't anxious at all - just wanted to get it over and the first month done so I was through the healing phase. Worrying doesn't do anyone any good.

I'm freaking out and mine won't be until sometime next year... But a lot of my stress is that my husband is really worried about complications and doesn't want me to go through with it for that reason. So I'm worried that if anything does happen, he's going to say that I asked you not to have the surgery... Not in an 'I told you so' kind of way, but in a disappointed, what do I do now kind of way - if that makes sense.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

I asked my surgeon a lot of questions about mortality rates at the hospital I had surgery at vs the national average and how that compared to other types of surgeries I'm more likely to have without wls. I.e hip replacement, heart surgery, etc. That put me at ease because Rny had a lower mortality rate. And fingers crossed, Having this surgery while younger and in good health, will prevent the need for future interventions.

in theory Hahahah

I wasn't worried... and honestly? That worried me!
