Sore belly when i breathe
Hi and congratulations! I am 8 weeks post-op and had a very sore belly for weeks when I breathed deep. It is major surgery... do you have your incentive spirometer? That will help you get some deep breaths in. I remember my hospital nurses chastising me for not wanting to get a good breath in... because I did not want to cough. (That being the idea behind deep breaths.). You definitely do not want pneumonia.
I got two plastic things in the hospital to help me breathe deeply... one was a tube with a ball and a hose to breathe into. You breathe in hard enough to suck the ball up. The other looked like a pickle... you blow into it to make it vibrate. Both help you get deep breaths and eventually cough to open up your lungs.
Yes, this is pretty typical. The gas is still trying to work its way out of your body, plus you just had your insides rearranged. The best thing is to keep walking as much as possible and sipping water and protein. I had a couple of walks a day outside, but also made a point of walking around the house for ten minutes every hour or so.
But, if the pain is getting worse, instead of better, I'd contact your clinic.
good luck
