Stalls :(

Been really trying to avoid posting this.  I searched for and read all about various stalls people report.  I am 8 weeks post-op today.  I know all the rules.  I am pretty sure I know what to do.  I also know that they are fairly common.  Down 46 pounds total and that is great.

BUT help!  I have weighed exactly the same for two weeks.  Here is the bad:  I am not measuring.  I use small bowls and pretty much know how much a half cup of cottage cheese is in my small bowl.  I know how much a tablespoon is.  I do measure what little meat I eat, which is not a lot.  I drink protein drinks and eat yogurt which is pre-measured.   I am eating carbs, in the form of dairy and some beans.  I am not drinking enough water but I try to get at least 6-8 cups in every day. I post my menu of the menu thread almost every day with totals, and while I do not always stick to it I do stay within the calorie and protein limits I put.  Worst case I could be going as high as 700 calories a day in not measured food total when my daily goal is 600.  I am finding it almost impossible to eat mostly meat and get away from the protein that has carbs in it.  I am not eating out, cheating by having candy, bread, pitatoes, rice, pasta or other carbs.

So will someone tell me honestly if I just have to force myself to eat the meat that makes me almost physically ill, or is this probably a common stall that I have to outlast? Could water be the problem?  I am not "backed up"... no trouble there.

I truthfully think its the stage we are at. I am stalling also but when I average out my weight loss it is about 20lbs each month for these last two months, not bad at all if you think about it. I look forward to hearing what the "pro's" have to say about this. Believe me, I feel your pain.

I am in that same spot. I am 5 weeks out and have been in stall for 2 weeks. My daily intake is between 500 and 600 calories. I was thinking that maybe I wasn't eating enough. I am getting all of my protein and water. Hang in there I'm rooting for all of us stallers!

So I don't care how small your bowl or utensils are-- measure everything. Portions get bigger gradually-- just like weight does. 'Pretty much' leaves huge room for misinterpretation.

While I don't think Bean or dairy carbs are horrible- I think you need to make a greater effort with meat. Is ALL meats, ALL cuts, ALL preparation methods disagreeing with you? Seems like there should be plenty of experimenting you can still do to find what works. What about fish?

I drink 50-80oz in liquids (not all water-- but all low/no cal/sugar free). I'm not militant abou****er intake- just about what it is I'm drinking.

Focus on the intake IMO- the weight will follow.

Thanks, Peach.  Exactly what I was hoping for... I guess I am not working so hard with meat.  Before surgery i was not a huge fan except for a nice rare steak now and then.  I knew about protein forward but figured I could use non meat options, turns out carb count is a lot higher and I did not know about the carb restriction.

I have tried a lot of meat.  Here is the biggest problem... first time usually ok but second or third time the thought of it makes me queasy.  Tunafish, salmon, shrimp, chicken.  Last time I tried chicken I did not keep it down.  Ground meat is intolerable, it is rubbery.  I can get deli meat down if it has a lot of something, A-1 or horseradish or something.  That is why I finally posted.  I was afraid I am going to have to make a real effort to learn to like meat again.  Of course, I was hoping it would clear up without that ;)

Cheryl,

Although I don't currently have a stall (I am actually afraid i'm losing too fast) I am with you on eating something once and then the thought of it makes me sick.  You gotta force the meat down kido.  Although I make a pretty good chile, i'm hooked on Wendys chili right now.  The meat is ground up so tiny, you really don't need to chew it.  Whenever I can't figure out what to eat I pick up a small chili and get two meals from it.

Hang in there.

You already know I can eat meat without any problem. I had a 2 1/2 week stall that broke just about a week ago. Our surgeries were a day apart, I think it's one of those "body trying to adjust" things. You're doing everything you can do, just keep plugging along trying to get in solid protein when you can tolerate it.

"the grass is always greener"  I would like to find it more difficult to eat, than to feel like I could eat the door off a barn!!  LOL
