Good morning Menu Friends!! Hello from pouring rain and cold here in Toronto! Going to clear up around noon but stay cool. To all the Chicago OHers out there CONGRATS on winning the World Series! The Cubs were amazing last night!! I didn't stay up for the whole game but saw highlights this morning on the news! Wow just Wow what a game that was!! To quote my baseball fanatic hubby "the game was so good I never have to watch baseball again!" Ha ha! Now our TV will be tuned into NBA & NCAA basketball. Such is life married to a sports fanatic!
QOTD: Did your Centre tell you there was a "honeymoon period?" Did they inform you that the malabsorption of calories eventually goes away? Did your Centre recommend you lose your excess weight and get to "goal" as quickly as possible? Mine did yes. And in fact the handout they gave us says after 12-18 months the calorie malabsorption ends. But when I went in for my 6 months check in with the NUT I distinctly remember her saying "well we in fact think the caloric malabsorption is actually a shorter time than we thought, more like around months 7-9 is when you will notice your weight loss slowing or stopping because you are now in fact absorbing all the calories you eat!!" That is what my Centre said. Not sure what yours says/said. Since we have a lot of newbies here I cant emphasize how much you are going to see such a difference in how much more ounces you can eat and how you now absorb the calories you are eating come a year post op (and according to my Centre more like 7-9 mos post op). I am telling you all this because I want to see you all successful, I want to see you get to whatever goal you have in mind and if I can tell you how I did & what worked for me then happy to share my experience!
Yet again l liked my menu so much from Mon/Tues/Wed that I am eating the same thing again! I am sure I will get sick of it by Friday! LOL
Time since surgery: 2 yrs & 11.5 months
B: can of solid white tuna with balsamic dressing
L: 3oz of grilled tandoori chicken breast with hot sauce
S: two babybel cheese & Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Peach drink make with cold water
D: shrimp with ****tail sauce (6 xlarge shrimp)
S: two babybel & 100 calorie bag of microwave popcorn
TOTALS: 877 calories 122 protein 34 carbs 37 fat
V: PatchMD Vitamin patches are on (Multi, Iron, B12, VitD/Calcium)
W: 4 coffees done (one with Miralax) lots of ice water with SF cranberry juice mixed in
E: Hike the dogs after work when I get home

Good morning everyone! Daisy, when I woke up and saw the Cubs win, my first thought was about how excited Arun must have been! Did he scare the doggies?
I am finally back down to my normal weight again after a full week of carrying around an annoying extra 3lbs after surgery. I am still not sure if it was water or actual fat, but I do know that eating a more balanced diet and really upping my protein seems to have helped. It's funny but pre-op I used to swing up and down 3lbs overnight, and it didn't mean anything. But now at 115lbs, 3lbs feels like a statistically high ratio of extra weight.
Today I am running around to 3 different schools and have a sort of hectic schedule. I should have no problem getting in my 10,000 steps without any extra effort. And if I can handle it, I might even go back to the gym tonight! Well, maybe...
QOTD: Nope. Not a word. But luckily, since this was round 2 for me (I had the band first) I knew what I was doing this time and I was laser focused on hitting goal quickly. Not only did they not tell me that there was a honeymoon phase, my surgeon flat out denied that I was malabsorbing calories, early out. She said, "who told you that?" like it was some water-cooler gossip. Ah well. I am glad I have you all to learn from...

Girl I am surprised you didn't hear Arun all the way down there in MA! There was so much hooting and hollering and yelling at the TV going on last night! The dogs are fine, I think after 7 years they are used to him carrying on I on the other hand am a light sleeper so his antics kept me up, I should have taken a sleeping pill LOL
I am so glad you got back to your happy weight. I am sure it was just eating off plan and the trauma of surgery last week, and either way glad you are in your happy place! I hope you are not too busy at work today you forget to eat or drink but yay on 10k steps!
Thank god you had the info in already and new about the honeymoon phase. How do Centre's not say something? And I am blown away your Surgeon treated the idea of malasorbing calories as some sort of gossip? What the heck???? I know I preach it a lot but thank god for OH right!
Yummy menu. Do you home make your cheeseburger or buy or restaurant? I find if I make my own I am okay, restaurant or store bought don't sit well with me, bummer too cuz I love cheeseburgers!

My hamburger is a frozen patty and I'm just adding a slice of cheese. Not the yummiest (like the ones Grim makes!), but it does the trick.

Cold here today and we are suppose to get very heavy rain, which we are in need of.
My center didn't really say any of that, but I haven't gone to my 3 month check up yet so they may when I go to that.
Yesterday afternoon was a longggggg one. My husband is disabled and has been since he had back surgery in the beginning of 2013, the poor guy is in pain most of the time and it's just been really hard on him. Well yesterday we went to a new surgeon and after 5 and a half hours between exrays and looking at his MRI he had a couple of weeks ago, the new surgeon said the other surgeon really didn't do a very good job, and that he just may be able to do something for him! (his old surgeon was fired for drinking on the job) I just so hope that he finally gets some relief from the pain.

What a TERRIBLE story. I cannot believe that about the surgeon drinking on the job. Sounds like you have a viable lawsuit, no? I hope he finds relief soon.

My husband is not the law suit type of guy, and right now there is no way that he could make the trips to lawyer's more Dr. etc., I will push him more IF this surgeon says that the back nerves were injured BECAUSE of surgery. Suing this Dr. won't make the pain go away, so he really doesn't see the sense of it.

And by the way, lawyers will absolutely travel to you and meet you at your home if you are too injured to make the trip. Sorry if I am being preachy--but if it is the surgeon's fault, I think there should be some legal ramifications.

Thank you, I understand that but to get him to see it is another thing, but talking to this new surgeon yesterday we are both much more optimistic now!
