Eating Problems
Hi everyone. I had surgery about 10 weeks ago and I am still struggling with constant nausea and trouble eating. I have had a stricture dilated twice ( most recently last week ) and have tried 3 different nausea meds in addition to regular blood testing. At one point they found my potassium level to be critically low but that has been fixed and no changes with the nausea. Right now I take Reglan during the day and Phenergan at night but I am getting really discouraged.
Has anyone had similar problems? I talk to the doctor all the time and was just wondering about others' experiences. I am able usually to keep down liquids and stay hydrated, I just struggle to eat basically anything and wake up dry heaving every night and morning, sometimes for thirty minutes at a time.
Sorry for such a long post and thanks for any advice

Initially post op I was doing fine...but app 3 months post op I had nausea. I hated it. I could not cook - bake foods... I could only reheat them.
Eventually we discovered that my Gallbladder stopped working. When it came out - my nausea was mostly gone.
What helped me when I was dealing with nausea was gingervtea. 3-4 times a day.
It was finding out what food had potential to cause nausea (i.e cold protein shakes, eggs..etc). Some food texture - just even handling it - like HB eggs, would cause me dry heaving..
Try different temperature of drinks. Drinking warm ginger tea first thing am helped my most heaving. Cold drinks caused cramping and nausea. Too hot drinks - hurt... I needed them "just right" ....
Later on... A couple of years later - I got tested for food allergies - sensitivities - and gues what? Some foods that caused me nause - I was either allergic to, severely or mildly ...
8 years post op - I still get nausea from some foods...my body does not like them.
Nausea now shows me that I need more sodium and minerals. Even with drinking enough - unless I get enough salt and magnesium- my body gets dehydrated. I eat pickles. I had days I would eat a jar of pickles per day. Good natural NSA pickles.

Could you be lactose intolerant? I struggled with nausea and diarrhea for several months before I figured out that my protein powder contained whey concentrate and was not lactose free. Whey isolate is 99% lactose free and I mix it with water, almond milk, or cashew milk. I can still eat Greek yogurt and cheese. The lactose in them is used up in the process of making them.
