Chewing the **** out of food...
I have a particular problem, do not know if there is another solution or if it is just something to get used to:
I try to follow the rule of chewing every bite 20 times, more if need be, until it is the consistency of applesauce. Recently when I chew, sometimes all the flavor seems to disappear and I am left with what feels and tastes like fiber in my mouth, and eventually end up spitting it out. Apples, meat, vegetables. Obviously yogurt does not affect me that way, so I still gravitate towards those and protein drinks.
What is that? Is it normal?
I never counted how many times I chewed each bite. But I definitely chewed more in those first few months than I do now.
There were some things I could chew a lot, and they didn't bother me. Others, like tuna, I could just not stand to chew really well. It just tasted like a turd in my mouth after one chew too many.
You will eventually chew less than you do now. In the mean time, find what works.

Thanks... I do understand that but find it hard to swallow smething that has lost any taste or consistency... but point well taken. More eating disoders I do not need ;0
I did read if we eat without distraction, we tend to chew more, eat less, and feel more satiated faster. Turning off all electronics and pushing aside reading material is a rule that may help out another rule? FYI: eating our small portion size has me scoring low on both rules. Endnote: I do know what is not normal-- last night, I spit out a piece of steamed broccoli in my napkin only to hear DH say, "eat it, it's good for you." I told him it is not normal to eat food not liked. Broccoli is nixed, unless there is cheese sauce : )
Exactly! I can only get just so mich in m stomach. Why should it be something that tastes like sawdust? I do follow the no distraction rule (unless I am eating with someone and then I talk ;)) and really find myself gettng bored before I finish.
I didn't count my chews, they just want you to make sure you chew your food before swallowing so big chunks won't get stuck. Remember you are still swollen too. Let's be honest, a lot of us in the "old days" inhaled our food barely chewing if at all Reminds me of my dog, he never chews with the exception of when I am trying to hide pills in his food. Then the little stinker chews. WTHeck!

Yes former inhaler here. I have the opposite problem now ;). May chew a bit less... and I have that dog... cannot give her a pill to save my life.
