Getting Foods Down
I am 6 weeks out of bypass and have had problems getting food down since day one. I noticed something really strange this weekend and wondered if this happened to anyone else. Saturday I had some vegi soup for lunch it went down fine and I felt full after eating about 1/4 of it. I tried to eat the exact same soup for lunch yesterday (it was left overs) and it wouldn't go down. 3 bites in and I was sick to my stomach. This has happened to me before, but I didn't make the connection until yesterday. How can a food go down fine one day and get stuck the next? How in the world am I supposed to know what I can and can't eat if it changes daily?
It could be how fast you're eating it, rather than the food itself. I'm starting week 9 right now post-op and at week 6 I still had to go very slowly even with liquids. Are you chewing it very thoroughly to avoid any firm/solid pieces from getting into your stomach?
Also, are you on an acid reducer? Sometimes nausea is actually acid.
In the beginning I could not eat anything that had been put in the microwave. I could eat something for dinner and it would be fine. The next day I would heat up leftovers in the microwave and it would make me sick.
I could eat leftovers if I warmed them in a pan in the stove.
That ended but it took a few years and now I can eat foods that have been warmed in the microwave.
Just one of my weird side effects.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
It's a hit or miss game. I often pack up servings of meat (2.7 oz), and one day I eat it all, the next, about 1/2 and I'm full. I think it depends on how we chew, and what kind of mood our pouch is in at the moment
You might want to think about the soup. I'm only 5.5 months out, but I know my doctor doesn't want liquids and solid foods mixed. I don't think it's any different than the drinking 30/30 before/after meals. Just have the solids in the soup for your meal, then maybe the broth later? Just a thought and suggestion.

Thanks folks! I would have never thought about the microwave causing an issue. I will keep an eye on that and see if I notice a pattern. I wondered about the acid being the problem. I start a new acid reducer today so I should know in a couple of days if that is the culprit. I hope it is- it would make things so much more bearable!
Hi! I am 7 weeks out. I can love a meal one day, the second time so-so, and the third time the smell of it makes me sick. I have tossed a lot of food... I think our new pouches are just particular about certain foods. I don't really use a microwave, so no experience there. Good luck on this journey!
