I take Excedrin Migraine on a limited basis and have been told many different things about it. I was told ibuprophen was a huge no no but not aspirin. I used to take Ibuprophen all the time - like 2-3 times a week.

So I'm honestly not sure about Excedrin Migraine - it would be lovely if we could all get the same information wouldn't it?

I used to take aspirin all the time - like daily, but I've been afraid I couldn't take it at ALL any more.  It would be nice if I knew I could take it occasionally for a migraine headache or another bad headache because caffeine and aspirin really does help a headache.  As I understand it, the reason we shouldn't take nsaids is because of an increased chance of ulcers.  I know aspirin is hard on the stomach.  I wish someone could tell us for definite whether or not aspirin is allowed in a limited amount.

I take the Excedrin tension headache medicine and it does not contain any aspirin as i get a lot of tension headaches. I took the bottle to my surgeon and he approved it.

Oh, wow!  You're right!  It's acetaminophen and caffeine!  I'll have to get some of that!  Thanks!!!  I still have to be careful with acetaminophen because I have liver disease, though.

So sorry!  I don't have migraines but I have very bad osteoarthritis and was on a heavy duty NSAID that I can no longer take so I really feel your pain with not being able to take meds.  Hope your doctor can figure out a work around.  I am waiting on an appointment with a pain management clinic.

Abstract

Frequency and torment caused by migraines direct patients toward a variety of remedies. Few studies to date have proposed ginger derivates for migraine relief. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of ginger in the ablation of common migraine attack in comparison to sumatriptan therapy. In this double-blinded randomized clinical trial, 100 patients who had acute migraine without aura were randomly allocated to receive either ginger powder or sumatriptan. Time of headache onset, its severity, time interval from headache beginning to taking drug and patient self-estimation about response for five subsequent migraine attacks were recorded by patients. Patients(,) satisfaction from treatment efficacy and their willingness to continue it was also evaluated after 1?month following intervention. Two hours after using either drug, mean headaches severity decreased significantly. Efficacy of ginger powder and sumatriptan was similar. Clinical adverse effects of ginger powder were less than sumatriptan. Patients' satisfaction and willingness to continue did not differ. The effectiveness of ginger powder in the treatment of common migraine attacks is statistically comparable to sumatriptan. Ginger also poses a better side effect profile than sumatriptan.

I am a migraine sufferer too... the one thing that did not go away post WLS. If you haven't already done this... download a free tracking app. migraine buddy is the one I use... and see if you can (or your neurologist) can spot a pattern. Mine are hormonal... very close proximity to my periods every month like clockwork, one side of my head usually... the app has you track where the pain is too... the weather, what you ate that might have triggered it, intensity, it's interesting (and sad to see how many days are affected.)

Hope you feel better... cool wash cloth, lavender and peppermint migra stick helps, dark room but sitting up (lying down is worse for me)

I used to take Topamax for preventative but I had the severe end of the side effects... so axed it... for awhile I did the nasal spray Zomig if I could catch it in the first few minutes it helped... the treatments I have been offered all cause weight gain and well... that's not an option so until they come up with something better I just deal.
