Weigh****chers post RNY?
I'm a pre-op, and funny - my brother texted me yesterday to say that he's having great success with it. I'm really happy for him, and he was nicely suggesting it as an option instead of surgery. For me though, there are too many free options now to track food, and I have OH for the support. I wouldn't choose WW after surgery, but it's a personal decision. A friend of mine is doing it and she's 3 years post-op. She wanted to lose more weight, and hadn't lost anything in about a year. So far I think she's lost about 8 lbs.

Losing the regain! I got this!
Yes, I was a member on an off for years....and it worked when I did it but I always gained it back when I stopped of course. Once I turned 40, it was increasingly harder and harder to even lose like I was able to before. I had my first information session for WLS the same day as WW rolled out their new plan (on my meeting day). After my information session, I was convinced that RNY was what needed to do and cancelled my membership. I know I made the right decision for me but I also have the folks that say, "you don't think you could have done it on your own if you tried harder, or tried one more time..." This place has given me great info and helped me tremendously. Good luck on your surgery and stick around! This is definitely the right place to be.

Thanks! I definitely plan to stick around.. I'm probably looking at surgery in March/April 2017 - just because I'm in Canada, and while it's covered under our provincial health care, it's a long process.

I have been a lifetime WW member since 1990. I have gone a few times since I reached goal. Luckily for me my WW goal weight is at the top of the BMI table for my height which is way above my goal weight, so I can go for free. I went after the holidays this past January when I was up 7 pounds. I lost the 7 pounds pretty quickly and I was able to follow the plan. I mostly just go for the group support and to have someone else weigh me. There are not enough good bariatric support groups around here so I like going to WW.

My surgeon's support group only meets once a month (and I am not always able to make it on that one day) so that is my main reason for asking. I do sort of miss the meetings sometimes. Also the thought of may actually making lifetime now is intriguing to me. I won't kid myself into thinking that I could have done it without my new tool. :-)

Exactly. I am not sure why people are bashing WW. I like it. Yes, I need my tool to help me STAY successful, but there is nothing wrong with WW. Whatever we do to lose weight and keep it off is make lifelong lifestyle changes. If WW helps us do that, then that's great. I love the people I talk to there. No one is judgmental and we are all just trying to take care of our health. In my 9 years in the bariatric community I have seen way too many people have huge regains. I keep fighting every day to stay at my goal weight. If going to WW helps me do that, then I will not let people try to convince me it's a bad thing. I will probably gain 5-10 pounds over the holidays and go back in January. It's my pattern, but I choose to enjoy the holidays and do not stress about it anymore.
Do what you have to do!!

I didn't think this sounded like a promo post, more like a question if anyone has done it thing. Personally I would try a WLS support group before I did this. But if you can look at their food plans ahead of time and they work with the surgery I don't see why not, I've done WW before surgery but there were never any meetings near me so I never did that part of it so it was just a diet for me. But if it wear a food plan plus meetings and it was still following WLS eating I don't know why it would be bad. I just don't think it's for me is all.

I have done WW many, many times, starting when I was 15. Always lost weight, always regained it and more. I still love that chart they used to have that had little boxes where you could check off the protein, bread, veg, fruit and milk. And you had to have liver once a week. Sounds like they have improved ;).
And reminds me of the very funny post by someone when I first joined... she wrote that as she was being wheeled into the operating room she was still thinking "Wait! Let me just try WW one more time..." Whoever that was, it still makes me laugh. Probably because that was me, too.
I did WW for a few weeks this past spring/summer as part of my jobs weight loss competition. Yes, it is a little more aligned with the post-op RNY life, but I did not follow it/count points. I didn't see the need to. I'm already tracking protein/carbs & calories; adding points to the mix would have sent me over the edge.
I did lose- but I didn't expect NOT to lose. it was no greater or lesser of an advantage doing it.
