Vacation Weight Gain
Some of you may recall that I recently returned from a family cruise after which time I gained 2.8 pounds, but lost it very quickly. I have now returned from the second of three almost back-to-back trips -- this one to Cabo for about a week. This time I gained 3.2 pounds, and I'm hoping I'll lose it as quickly as I lost after the first trip. I have to say that I'm actually pretty proud of myself because I was super active on this trip! My fiancé and I went on a bike tour, took Salsa lessons, did a high-impac****er aerobics class almost every day, walked up and down four flights of stairs a million times, etc. I obviously ate and drank too much -- it was an all inclusive resort, but I still feel really great -- and have gotten right back on the wagon this morning!

Extra activity plus travel can cause a lot of waher retention.
Last week - I had a very long 14 hour day with 11.5 of it driving - in a car... In 24 hours I was up 5 lbs. 2 days later - I was back to "normal" weight.
I can see up to 5 lbs loss or "gain" in any 24 or 48 hours. Extra exercise (swollen muscles - inflammation causes water retention), hormonal things, or even Chinese food, or just because I got constipated...
That's why my normal range is 5 lbs... My weekly average is within 2 lbs...

I'm pretty sure I replied to your last post because I had just returned from a vacation then too lol. But I just returned from another one and have a new reply :) I went to Universal and then the beach last week. I ate on plan-ish but all restaurant food but this was the first time that I allowed myself to eat a few bites of my husbands food here and there, and had bigger portions, etc. I had frozen butterbeer at Universal - just a few drinks - but I was still concerned at coming home. I weighed myself the next day and had gained 3 pounds. 2 days later I had lost all of it. 3 days later I had lost 2 more pounds beyond that.
I say all of that because I don't believe I lost all that weight in 2 days lol. All that restaurant food has a lot of salt and I'm sure that was all water weight that I quickly lost once home. And then all the TONS of walking I did finally caught up with me and my weight leveled off to what it actually was.
It's great that you can come back and get back on plan! I was able to as well, I was worried about being tempted to stay in that vacation mode but I haven't been thankfully - that never would have happened before, I would have just gone off the edge and stayed there!

I am an odd duck I guess, when I go away on vacation I actually lose weight or come back the exact same weight I was when I left. I attribute this to (I think) I tend to eat less calories while away because I often eat a really late breakfast - more like brunch, eat dinner and don't snack as much due to just being out, doing stuff, going places. So instead of 3 full meals and two snacks l like I have now I eat 2 meals and 1 or no snacks. And I drink more liquids when I am away because I am so fearful I will dehydrate myself.
Your Cabo vacation sounds awesome, you will drop the 3.2 in no time! Good for you for getting out and living live and having fun, Salsa lessons sounds awesome!!

When I lose weight on vacation I consider it like not getting caught going through a speed trap. People will say to me well you walked a lot while you were on vacation. I tell them I walk about four to five miles daily.
I consider myself lucky when I lose when I am away.
Great job to get back and right back at it.
I have done well with travel as well. I tend to stay the same or lose a little as well.
I will not weigh until I'm home at least 2 days. The flying alone I think causes retention. I also tend not to be as "regular" while I'm away.
All inclusive is awesome having so many good choices...it's just the booze that can get ya !! i
