TMI question after RNY...
I know, TMI ;) I did not have an actual bowel movement for quite a few days, I think almost a week. My surgeon's office called for a check on me at about 5 days post-op and when the nurse heard I had not had one she had me up the senna I was taking to two or three times a day until I had one. I would call your doctor if you have any questions, but I do not think it is unreasonable to skip for several days. You are not taking in much, anyway... And make sure your liquids are high and you are walking.
FYI I just had my first normal one two days ago, and I am six weeks post-op today.
Hi
No it is not unusual, but an effect from the anistesia, and the RNY. If they gave you a prescription when you left the hospital for colace or something else, start taking it. If not call your doctors office and ask for something. This could be an ongoing problem so you might want to take something to keep you regular. I take a capful of Miralax every morning in a glass of crystal light. It disolved easy and has no taste.
Good luck

My 1st one was 5 days later and they told me that was average. It was after that first one that the real problems began with several bouts of crazy constipation. Everyone is different but be sure to keep a close eye on the situation.
