What's on your Menu today (Wednesday) RNYers?
IT was so worth having the surgery for so many reasons, but it is a huge monthly out of pocket savings not having to take 2 diabetes meds, plus bp and cholesterol meds (I can't even think of the names of the prescriptions because its been 18 months and my old brain forgetss). My prescriptions used to cost me well over approximately $150 per month, now I only take 500 mg of metformin a day to keep my A1c in check. I get 6 months worth for $10.00 you can't beat that for savings.
QOTD: yes my husband is supportive. He eats his own things, though, and I eat mine - except at dinner, when he eats what I do - only a lot more of it. But he's great at changing his plans if they don't fit in with my parameters, taking walks with me, (sometimes) going to the gym with me, cheering me on. I've really grown to appreciate it even more now that I'm staying with my stepmother who insists that I'm not eating enough to keep a bird alive, and keeps trying to get me to eat things like ice cream and French fries ("oh come on - just once won't hurt!"). So glad DH isn't like this - it would make this whole process extremely difficult. I feel sorry for people who have to live with this.
I am so excited because I have an in-person interview in two weeks for a research study I volunteered for at my university (I already "passed" the online and two phone interviews). It's a "well-being" study. Participants are assigned to one of three groups - a meditation group, an exercise group, or a control group. Before the program begins, you go through a sleep study, a two-hour (!!) MRI, and all this other crap to assess, among everything else, things like brain waves. Then group 1 goes through an extensive meditation program, group 2 goes through an extensive exercise program, and the control group goes through nothing - for 12 weeks, I think. Then they do the sleep study, MRI, etc all over again to detect changes. I WANT TO BE PICKED!! It's a paid study, but frankly, I wouldn't care if they paid me or not. I'm just really interested in the study itself, and I want to go through either the meditation program or the exercise program (with my luck, I'll be picked for the control group - although at the end of the study, the control group people get to either take the meditation classes for free OR get a several-month membership to the fitness center (3 or 6 month membership, I believe....). But still, I'd rather be in one of the other two groups so I could see the changes in my own brain/body. I really hope I get picked...
16 months out
B: L&F coconut vanilla yogurt with added protein powder, 5 strawberries, 1 T Kashi Crunch granola
S: protein shake, maybe coffee with half & half
L: not sure yet
D: chili again! (my stepmother is making it - so it'll be beef instead of turkey - so at least somewhat different.....)
probably another Greek yogurt in there somewhere
got more new clothes at Goodwill yesterday. The jeans I got here a couple of weeks ago are already getting baggy. Got some new sweaters, too. The Goodwill down here is super cheap - I'll have to stop by again before I head back home next week!
I LOVE Goodwill. It was definitely the only way I could afford to have clothes that fit. Because I am frugal,I still love to shop there and am putting together a big bag of clothes that I'm tired of now to donate to them. Since I've been the same weight now for over 3 years I'm getting tired of some of my things and just need some fresh looks!
they are at my Goodwill in Wisconsin, too - but at this one in North Carolina, they're only $4.50! And the sweaters are $2.75! Incredible!
I have been to 2 different Goodwill's here in Maine and the jeans were $3.00!

Your Study sounds fascinating!!! I hope you get picked for one of the good groups too!
Goodwill is our 'cheap' place here! I love the thrill of thrift shopping, but I need to control myself... because I end up with expensive like-new shoes! I need to concentrate this week on finding jeans. Company just sent out a memo that we can continue 'jeans' at work all through Winter. I only have 2 pair, and they are both jeggings... which are fine for boots and long shirts, but I'd like to get some regular boot cut jeans to wear with other shoes (since my damned shoe collection keeps growing! There are so many cute shoes to go with the cute new clothes!)
