Petersen's Hernia
Good to see you! Sorry about your experience. That just confirms my opinion that once we have WLS we are always a patient. I understand that not every health issue I have is related to WLS but there are extra concerns that have to be taken into account when you do have a problem.
Anyway I hope you stick around. I always enjoy hearing from you and you always have so much good stuff to contribute. You are one of my favorite people around here :)

Hey friend... so good to see you. It's a crazy place/space to be. I don't know how much I'll stick around. Especially once I go back to work as it will take all of my time to get caught up. I've also been asked to illustrate a textbook (on egyptology!) so I've been busy. :) but you have my email. :) I always love hearing from you.

When they change the anatomy they create a small space that can cause a potential hernia. Frequently when they do WLS they actually will stitch closed that space to ward against the possibility, but when we lose a lot of weight, that can cause even a closed space to open up. It's not that common to have a Petersen's hernia, but it can happen in 1% to 5% of cases. My new surgeon who saved my life closed the space for me and since I'm not anticipating losing much weight (since I'm already at my personal ideal weight), we can hope that I won't have a recurrence. But he absolutely wouldn't guarantee it won't come back.
Of course I've been off my feed so to speak since June, and even now that my guts are back the way they should be I'm still not that keen, so I might lose more weight. I've lost 45 pounds already.
