What's on your Menu Today (Tuesday) RNYers?
Declaring that you have reached goal and are now in maintenance seems like a new fad on here. Your body decides when it's done, you just stop losing while doing what you do.
I don't understand why anyone would reach a certain weight and then adjust what they're eating because "maintenance".
Some of us lose a little too much and while it's nice reaching that lowest weight, I know I looked TERRIBLE. Face or figure is a real thing for those of us of a certain age and it's surprising how much better we look once we fluff out a bit at 2-3 years.
It takes a few years and a few adjustments to keep everything in balance. Unfortunately, that means fewer and fewer calories to maintain as we get older and further out from surgery. Enjoy these early years of certainty.

I really needed to read your answer. I got as low as 178 lbs on a 5'11" frame, was always a muscular guy. I had none at 178. I have settled in at 188-192 lbs and am comfortable, healthy and I feel that I look natural. I looked awful at 178.
Life is constant assessment and adjustment. About everything. Relationships, work, finances, fashion, health. Everything. Why people think they can dial in a certain way and amount of eating, and then go on autopilot, is beyond me.

Thanks for posting Kim, I LOVE seeing our Vets chime in and share your wisdom. I too had that "you look sick" face & body for a while, now at 3 years out I think my body & the fat has settled and I don't have the gaunt look anymore, but I do think I have way more Lines on my face that I would like to have LOL
I know I am still a 3 yr newbie so I appreciate I still have lots of years of adjusting to keep the balance.
As several people have said lately "we are all a work in progress"
Have a good one!
Good morning, Daisy and everyone! Daisy, I now live with a football fanatic, so Saturday is college football day, Sunday is NFL day, and then Monday and Tuesday are watching recap sports shows and Wednesday and Thursday are watching "coming up this weekend" sports shows! So I feel your pain :)
Goal weights are such a weird thing, no? My surgeon doesn't set goal weights, and considering I was 351 lbs when I had surgery, I couldn't even fathom what I could get down to. I set a goal of 160 which was pretty arbitrary, and seemed impossible. I reached that and actually at my lowest was about 155. Strangely, although I am only 5'4", 155 looked really skinny to me and everyone (maybe they were just used to me being so big?). At any rate, I had my plastics at around 160 lbs and I have maintained in the 160s since then. Every once in a while I hit 170 and though I can still wear my size 8 pants and size medium tops, it feels an awful lot like a slippery slope, so I eat a bit less and work out a bit more to be in the 160s. So long story short, YES, lose below your goal since bounce back is real.
I am off to the grocery store, and now that I cook for me and my BF and then his kids on the weekends, I go to Wegman's twice a week and have to make a comprehensive plan and list. This week's menu is cheesy chicken enhiladas, bbq pulled chicken in the crockpot, homemade chicken tenders, deli meat and cheese on salads of lettuce/snow peas/mini cucumbers, and one night out at a restaurant.
Time since surgery: 3 years in December!
B: Crab salad
L: Honey roasted turkey and pepper jack cheese on a bed of lettuce, snow peas, and mini cucumbers. A hard boiled egg if I get ambitious.
D: Cheesy chicken enchiladas
S: Likely popcorn after the gym
E: 1 hour elliptical
Have a wonderful day, all!
Glad to see you posting Emily! We have missed you around here....
