On Wednesday I am having my RNY and a hiatal hernia repair. My surgeon said my hernia is very big. Anyone else experience this? Would you please share your experience?

It didn't happen to me, but finding and fixing hernias is extremely common during (and after) WLS. Finding bad gallbladders is also very common.

I had a rather large hiatal hernia repaired during my surgery too. I wasn't aware I even had It! It made my surgery take a bit longer but my recovery was totally uneventful and I had very little pain post op. Nothing to worry about at all!

I actually had three hernias - a ventral, umbilical and hiatal. When I had my RNY, the surgeon fixed the hiatal which was large and the ventral which was really large. The umbilical will need to be fixed at some point in the future! My surgeon stated it was pretty common. It actually helped me some as I had to pay cash for my surgery and the hernia helped with the expenses a little (very little actually).
