What's on your Menu (Monday) today RNYers?
Good Morning all!!
No excitement in my week end, started Fall cleaning, meh. I did do a little internet shopping for some groceries, not something I usually do but free shipping and $10 bucks off w/ good prices, I couldn't pass it up!!
QOTD: I'm still early out, but I am mourning real food. I'm not a big snacker, but portion size is/was my problem. I look at the tiny plate with the 3-4oz serving and think "that's it??". I love to cook and taste during the process; can't really do that anymore. :(
Time out: 6+ weeks
B 2 cups coffee w/ sf coffee-mate, left over pork cube steak.
L Left over steak (having no trouble what so ever with any meat so far)
D cheeseburger, no bun!

Oh the dreaded Fall clean up, we started ours on the weekend too. Internet shopping is fun. I think I might be addicted to Amazon (in my opinion Amazon is going to take over the world, just saying LOL LOL).
I mourned food a lot in the beginning. And to this day there are some foods I can't eat due to it does not sit well and some food I know are my trigger foods/slippery slope foods. I can't eat pasta as it does not sit well with me (and I so miss pasta!) and candy and birthday cake are my trigger/slippery slope foods, can't have those in the house. And yes it takes a while for the "fat" eyes to take in 2-3 oz and realize this is how I eat now. Its a lot to take in a first, but you are doing a good job. Keep an eye on your portion sizes, especially if you recognize that its a problem for you. At 6 weeks out I was not eating any where near 700 calories so I do think that's a bit high and you could scale it back a bit, so just keep portion sizes in mind okay.
I am thrilled you are not having any problems with eating meat. You will be so happy when you are a few months out and you are still eating meat and losing a ton of weight!
Hi gang, weekend was fun with my company! Glad it's over we all stayed up way to late playing Skip'Bo and laughing!
I don't really snack yet. I hopefully won't have an issue with it when that time comes, it's only my husband and I so if he wants snacks he brings them in and puts them in his "room" so I don't even see anything anf I don't buy any crap food, because I know me!

What is "Skip'Bo ttfan? Do tell? Is it a card game?
I love that your husband takes his snacks to "his room" LOL. Its a win because you are not tempted!!! My parents have his & her "rooms", my mom's is the living room and my Dad has a room in the basement, his personal "man cave" mini fridge, bathroom across the hall, the whole nine yards LOL.
Good looking menu!
Good MORNING! I am at work wearing some of my new-to-me clothes. Feels very good. Someone just commented that I am looking very curvy.
QOTD: I would love to report that since I am only almost six weeks out I have no bad habits creeping back in. However. What is a struggle for me is seeing something and thinking, well if I can ma**** with a fork, then ... the good news is that when I try it almost invariably it does not taste like I remember it would. Case in point, cheezits. Used to love crackers. Now, as soon as I have licked the salt off they lose their appeal. But the trying of it is the old bad habit for me.

I have the BA calcium chews, they are just ok but nothing to write home about. However, I bought a box of Calcet chocolate fudge chews. OMG. 40 calories, waaay too many calories for one calcium chew that is not even very good. Thank goodness there are only 29 left. I hate to throw things away and already tossed $80 worth of Opurity chewables.
One more thing... I have my almost 6-week check-up tomorrow, same crappy dietitian who commented that my 2-week after weight loss was not very good (4 pounds, I think). Now I am down another 11 pounds, but it took a month. I know, I know, everyone has a different journey. But 15 pounds for 6 weeks, not that unusual, right?

Yay on "new to me clothes"! You must feel spiffy & curvy! That's awesome!
I really would like to caution you CJ to reign this 'what I can mash with a fork" idea. This is already bad behavior for not quite 6 weeks post op. I am genuinely worried for you. NOW is the time to get your head in the game (so to speak). I say this because I want to see you successful and if you think its hard now, girl its so much HARDER the farther you are out. Please work on this and do report back to us on how you are doing.
Your menu is good, need to drop those carbs a lot and up that protein. I am 3 years out don't eat 50 grams of carbs a day.
No way on 40 calories for a calcium chew!!! You don't have to throw stuff out, give it to a family member, a friend, a co worker. There are a lot of people who take calcium & vitamins and they are not WLS people, so it won't go to waste.
As for your weight loss, I just looked back at my spreadsheet I keep and when I was 6 weeks post op I was down 34 lbs. But you can't compare, we are all so different and lose at different speeds. If you can be honest with yourself and say you are eating just protein, very low carb, no snacking, no "off plan" foods, no "ma**** with a fork cheez-its" then you can be assured that you are doing everything right and the weight will come off. If you are cheating now it only will hurt you in the end and you won't get to goal. I can't answer that for you CJ only you can. Is this journey hard, you're damn right it is, but it is worth it you just have to work your ass off for it (literally & figuratively).
Good luck at your 6 week follow up tomorrow. Please keep coming here and posting so we can help you and support you.
Thank you for the feedback. I seriously want to do the best job I can do. Crackers, cream of wheat, etc are listed on my food list, and I am trying to pay attention to the menu posts every day for clues. My carbs are coming from all the dairy. Cottage cheese, fairlife, yogurt, sf pudding made with fairlife and cottage cheese. Dropped the beans and fruit except for a few grapes now and then. Problem is I can still not tolerate meat. I can ear about a few bires and then feel sick. Is that not common at almost six weeks? I see Pat R for instance has almost exclusively meat. I would be sick all the time on what she eats. Maybe that is the point.
again, thanks. I need feedback.

So for the record my post op eating plan also had cream of wheat, oatmeal, melba toast. Had I not listened to the Vets here on OH I would have eaten that stuff, but I saw that all the Vets said no way, don't eat that stuff! I am so glad I listened to them! Just because your Centre says to eat it does not mean they are right. Fruit, hell no! Even at 3 years post op I rarely if ever eat fruit now, its just so high in sugar & carbs. But if I do I would eat 2-3 strawberries, ditch the grapes, they are no good at 6 weeks out.
As for meat and you eat 2-3 bites and are full, yup that is exactly what is supposed to happen. At 6 weeks out 2-3 bites is it baby.
If you are going to continue to eat that much cottage cheese, yogurt and pudding then you need to be adding a scoop of unflavored protein powder to it. I would only eat one yogurt a day, not 3. I would not eat 3 yogurts at 3 years post op, no way.
Protein shakes made with water not milk saves carbs, I learned that early out.
What meats have you tried that make you sick? All meats or only certain ones? What about eggs? Can you do eggs? I just made up some egg salad last night for hubby and I. If you have not tried all meats then you need to try others and see if all make you sick. Dense protein like chicken, steak, pork will be 2-3 bites and done, that is the magic of dense protien. What about hummus with added unflavoured protein powder mixed in? Yes you can eat it with a spoon, why not? Who says it has to be on a cracker?
I know you want to do your best and you are doing good, you just need a little help and direction. Keep coming here to OH, keep asking questions, keep learning. I know you got this, happy to help you along the way!
