Necessary to remove gallbladder?
I just had my gastric bypass 9/28/16 and I actually 'voted' to have my gallbladder removed during the surgery.
Extreme weightloss of any kind can cause gallbladder problems, and a gallstone or gallbladder attack is the worst pain ever. I had an attack years and years ago, put me in the hospital on a morphine drip for a week, and my insurance at the time said I wasn't sick enough to have it removed (idiots!) it was so painful I literally couldn't sneeze. The pain when I inhaled would stop my sneeze. Couldn't eat, couldn't cough, nothing.
so when my ultrasound showed stones, I voted to have it removed. Your body continues to produce bile, but you have to be careful of your fat intake for about a year. And since I'm already on a restricted diet for my bypass it works for the gallbladder restriction too :)
so now I don't have to worry about a second surgery 10 months down the road.
