I usually don't participate but the QOTD got me..

QOTD:

  1. Food insulin index - proteins will cause insulin release. That explained me getting RH after drinking fat free/ carb free protein shake, or eggs scrambled without fat.
  2. Dr Bernstein diabetic diet - great approach to stabilize blood sugar.
  3. I need to monitor my labs and adjust my vitamins minerals as needed. Labs in "normal" range does not mean a thing.
  4. Some vitamins are easier to absorb when they are "dry" form..
  5. Franken food is Franken food - I.e protein bars, protein shakes..best - avoid or use in moderation.
  6. Alcohol post op WLS will afect me much differently post op
  7. B6 is easy absorbable and can accumulate in the body causing nerve damage. A lot of centers don't test for it.
  8. Very low iron - ferritin is close to impossible to raise with oral supplementation...when that drops too low -we need iron infusions
  9. PatchMd.
  10. Last but not least- just yesterday I was informed that ingested fat can be turn into blood glucose and cause insulin release. Great... So Keto diets high in fat can also affect person glucose level....and may affect the insulin level.

I so LOVE it when you post Hala!  You never cease to teach me new things and open my eyes up to new perspectives!

I love all your 10 "learning's", and amazing that as far out as you are you are still discovering new things about your body.

You & Grim were instrumental in me making my decision to get Iron Infusions.  If it was not for OH I would still be listening to the dumb nurse at my Centre saying Ferritin of 4 is "a bit low" and to try yet another oral Iron pill, so THANK YOU!

Your points #3, #5, #8, #9 all mean a lot to me, so thank you for taking the time to post!!

The .longer I am on here the more I learn. And the more humble I become. Some of those unfortunately  I learn on my own ...too stuburn to listen...

Every time I reached the "I've got it" stage...something happened or someone comes along and I realize that I really don't know as much as I think I do.

I don't think we ever really "get it".  Every day is a new challenge and we just do the best we can with the knowledge we have.

We do the best we can on any given day.... We have to be open to continuing to learn. I always learn something new... or am reminded about something I forgot in your posts....

#7 (above) - B6 is easy absorbable and can accumulate in the body causing nerve damage. A lot of centers don't test for it.

That's my QOTD answer.  My Center doesn't/didn't test for B6 and my levels rose to 68 (21 is highest it should be).  Now I have terrible neuropathy, it's no fun.  Now they have to test it every month... they reduced my Bariatric Advantage EA Supplements to just 1 a day, but I worry I'm not getting enough of the other good nutrients now.  In 2 months it's only come down 4 points.

Hala, do you mind if I ask how you are being treated for you B6 and what your levels are?

At one time my levels were over 80... It took me 2 -3 years for them to drop to normal levels. We did nothing...

But I supplemented B1 nd B12 - And folic acid ..they are nerve protective vitamins.

I eliminated almost anything with B6 And took bunch of individual capsules.

Check the calcium - some calcium have b6. Lots of protein powders/rtd have b6, protein bars, vitam water..etc etc...

BTW- when I had. High B6 I also had other issues that may or may not be related to b6 toxicity.  We will never know. I am slowly healing from Pituatary dysfunction. Adrenal insufficiency, food allergies. Etc...

Was any of those caused by b6? I will never know.

I have scatica and nerve tinglng and muscle twitching. Can some of that be related to b6 toxicity? I don't know.

I'll never know.

Good luck.

H.a.l.a, thank you.  I have sciatica so bad that post-op I cannot walk even a block without a cane.  PCP took xrays and said nothing else diagnostic will help except pain management.  Can I just ask for a B6 test?

Good morning everyone.  I'm back! I had the most incredible, amazing time.  Palm Springs was beautiful and deliciously hot.  Love it, and spent a lot of time around the pool at our house.  Desert Trip was epic, and even better then I could have imagined.  The Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Roger Waters. It made my baby boomer heart soar. I danced my head off.

i also ate my weight in junk, so I have some work to do. No regrets, but the madness is over. #DesertRecovery.

It is supposed to be stormy here today, with lots of wind and rain.  They are predicting power outages and urban flooding.  Fingers crossed it's not too bad.

QOTD: I agree with everything you've all said.  Also, and so important to me, is that this is not a perfect journey.  We will do well, we will mess up and we will course correct and continue on.  I've learned how important your support and guidance is. This life ain't for sissies!

I have almost no food in the house, so I need to get to the store and stock up on protein, protein, protein.  I will have my usual Egg Beaters, mozzarella and bacon omelette for breakfast (oh how I have missed you), and I have prawns I will cook for lunch.  After that, no idea yet.  One more day off before it is back to work tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!
