What's on the Menu today (Thursday) RNYers?
That is a crazy amount of food. If you ate everything that would be 2 1/2 cups food???? What???? I can't eat that now. Maybe lettuce or popcorn because they are magical like that in your pouch...but 1 1/2 cups protein early out???
My center also moves you to regular food within a month, each stage is only a week for bypass... Sleeves have a different progression. They also don't give you a goal... The head Doc is very firm on this.... I think it is for psychological reasons.... As it was said to me- 'we throw the BMI chart out the window once you get approved' as it is such a bad indicator of what is 'normal' for people who have been MO.

Morning!
i think the most surprising thing was I had assumed my centre would at least have some post op staff. The thing I've learned here, is not so much a specific lesson, but just having the exposure to the vets. Getting a clearer picture of what long term success and health requires. My centre is great at a lot of things, but not the boots on the ground knowledge. None of them have had the surgery. As you mentioned, the carb thing is the most obvious. But also a disconnect on how much food I can actually consume. I cannot eat the food pyramid. They did mention this site though, but warned to not take everything said as gospel. Which is true. It doesn't take long to see who listen to, who not.
had my 6 week labs done. Everything seems good, except my potassium is low. I have a 3 day prescription then, repeat blood work on Monday. She said it wasn't common to see that. Anyone else have that happen? She also suggested replenishing my electrolytes.
menu:
B:cottage cheese with a few raspberries
L: ham cheese and a little hummus
D: trying a bean sprout version of pad Thai with a bit of shrimp and tofu (I'm going bean sprout crazy now)
S:protein shake as needed.
Calories under 500, protein 60. Carbs no where near 150 hahaha

Could not agree more about exposure to the Vets and learning from the Vets here on OH. Its so true how much knowledge and advise they give out it truly sets the newbies up for success if they are willing to listen to them. And there seems to be several posters who say their centres recommend a ton of food, its just wrong. Its weird to me how many Centres are against OH and discourage it. And I agree if a person reads a lot here on OH you can pretty much see who to listen too and who not too and who is successful.
Glad your 6 week labs are good! I did not have potassium problems. You can get Gatorade G2 is the one to try, or Vitamin Water, just read the labels and look for the sugar content before you buy it, that should help with your electrolytes.
Can I ask are you using MFP or are you just "guessing" at your calories and protein and carbs. I notice you put "calories under 500, protein 60 and carbs no where near 150", a little piece of advice, you need to know your numbers. "Guessing" or "Estimating" is what got us all in trouble in the first place and get us to Obesity. If you are using MFP and just don't want to post your numbers that's fine but now is the time to get into that daily habit of using MFP and knowing what your numbers are. Just a little suggestion.
Oh yeah, I'm pretty nerdy about mfp. It's just at this point, how much I can eat varies from day to day and meal to meal. So I plan, but add as I go. Some days it's 480, sometimes 350 when I can't tolerate much solid protein. Sometimes I can eat a whole egg, sometimes half. But never going over 500.
I am susceptible to low potassium - pre-WLS also. Using Morton Lite Salt is a good way to up your potassium. It is half potassium chloride. Comes in a lite blue container, my Target carries it.
Also the best source of quick Potassium is Low Sodium V-8 juice. Even if you add salt to it to make it palatable... I like the spicy version, or make my own virgin Bloody Mary mix. If you buy the 6 pack of small can each can is only 35 calories.
Drinking lots of fluids can lower your blood potassium and other electrolytes. I do take magnesium, and started recently because I was feeling like I was having low potassium symptoms- cramps, occasional heart palpitations as well as water retention -- I am still having swelling issues from my leg surgery....

Good morning,
I also love Fall, the crisp air, the smell of the leaves on the ground as you walk through them.
QOTD
At my two week post op appt the nut told me to be sure to eat 3 full oz's of protein per meal. I was so hungry I ran to BJ's and bought a rotisserie chicken, got it home and weighed out 3 ozs. I could not believe how much chicken was on my plate. I posted what she told me and everyone advised me not to eat that much so early out. Needless to say, at 1 month now I can barely eat 1 oz per meal. If I listened to her, I would be doubled over in pain daily.
B. Premier shake
S. 2 pcs bacon
