What's on your Menu Today (Wednesday) RNYers?
Feel better Daisy- hoping all returns to normal for you soon.
QOTD: For the first few years I was married and had Thanksgiving I did the whole big dinner that I grew up on for the holiday-- just wanted to replicate tradition. Over time I've scaled back considerably cause it was just a waste of food. This year we are going to my parents, most years we just stay home though. When we stay home I'll either do the smallest turkey we can find, or do a turkey breast. I always do a ham too. Sides are collared green, candied yams & stuffing. I used to do more sides (mac & cheese, rice & peas) but I'm the main one that ate that stuff and don't eat it now. I only make one desert now-- sweet potato pie-- that I indulge in- crust & all, till its gone :-)

Thanks Peach! I love turkey but not a big fan of ham, but if I do eat ham I have to have it with a ton of horseradish, weird I know! Its interesting how our worlds change post WLS. I would have loved to try all of those dishes you mentioned above, they all sound yummy! Never had sweet potato pie, but I am pretty sure I would love it!
Good morning Daisy and menu crew. Get better already Daisy!
QOTD - We go to my Mother in laws and usually spend the day into early evening, end up playing cards and I take a nap on the couch..LOL....I avoid the high sugar items, my holiday favorite is my DW homemade sausage stuffing and roasted brussel sprouts with balsamic vinaigrette and dried cranberries. I also like green bean casserole. I will usually have a bite of a cheesecake and do not eat the crust.

Hello!!
QOTD: I took over Thanksgiving from my mom about 6 years ago. I have able bodied bros. and sisters, so they bring a lot of the sides/desserts. While banded I could have a tiny bite of everything, not sure about this Thanksgiving, probably just turkey and gravy and turnip and carrot mash. This will be when ALL the family finds out about my bypass. Held back from the unsupportive this time around!!

That's great you have bro's & sisters who bring stuff over, helps the work load for you.
Oh good luck on telling family about your bypass! I hope they are all super supportive and say nice things and if they don't too bad, its your life and your health!!!
Just a suggestion Pat, I really think you need to bring up your protein. I didn't get close to 800 calories until I was at least 6-8 months post op. Your lunch seems really big to me for 5 weeks post op? A cup of lettuce, plus chicken, plus tomatoes? Why not just the chicken? Why the added veggies? Its a hard balancing act in the beginning, don't get me wrong, you are on the right track but I would love to see you eat less veggies and more protein. Its just my opinion, if this it what is working for you and your dropping weight weekly then stick to it, but I just think there is no need for all those veggies at 5 weeks out. Protein forward my dear!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends :). Daisy, I wish I could send you some chicken soup and a warm blanket... feel better, girl.
Your question of the day is too bittersweet for me to type out completely, but in a nutshell, cancer took away a wonderful friend who I spent my first 40 Thanksgivings with. The traditions were strong and it was hands down my favorite day of the year. Everything has changed since we lost her. Last year was awful. This year I'll bring my parents to Grim's house to celebrate! New traditions...yay :)
Lots of meetings, again. Will it ever end?
