The B12 need to be sublinguals, liquid, a shot, or a nasal spray for RNYers. We won't absorb B12 in a tablet/pill form since B12 needs the intrinsic factor to be absorbed and that part of our anatomy is bypassed. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by pills, but just in case I'm not:

Vitamin B12

The stomach is very important for B12 absorption. This is because stomach acid helps to release B12 from food, and another substance that is made by the stomach - Intrinsic Factor -is essential for B12 absorption. Some bariatric surgery procedures, such as gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy, make B12 absorption more difficult for these reasons. Often people who have these procedures will be required to take additional B12 as an injection, intranasal spray or sublingual tablet.

Thanks for that! I had assumed it was because of post op limitations, like the liquids and chewables.

i have my 6 week follow up tomorrow, and I wouldn't have even thought to bring that up!

thats why I love this site!

I use the generic/ store brand of Centrum Silver. I prefer to take a different kind of iron than what is found in the regular Centrum/store brand equivalent. ( I take carbonyl iron. )

I often end up washing my pill form vitamins from my pouch just by the amount of water I drink while taking all my vitamins. I use a calcium chew and a sublingual B12, and I wait about 5-10 minutes to drink after those.
