Calorie count at 6 months post op.

Good morning

I'm just about at the 6 month mark post op and I was wondering what people are doing for calorie/numbers

I'm a 6 foot male who started at 293.5 and am now floating around 198 or so. Currently doing about 800-900 calories. Getting in 80 grams of protein and around 60grams of carbs, water and vitamins. My goal weight is about 185 and I'd love to be at that number or even less

Lost about 80lbs in the first 4 months and have slowed right down these past 2

I exercise 6 days a week and it's mostly 1+ Hour a day walking. Time to start weight training ?

Seeing my Dr in early November but I'd love to hear what other do

Congratulations on a great job. Most people say they stay under 1000 while losing- but the most people being women. It does get harder to lose as you weigh less, so don't be discouraged by slower losing. It is natural.

The exercise isn't going to make you lose weight- well documented in research. So be careful not to eat those calories back. It is motivating, helps you feel good, and helps to keep the weight off...but it is what you put in your mouth that makes you lose it. Weight training is always good to add to the mix- but don't feel like you have to add more time to your day for it- just mix it up a little.

As long as you are still losing- keep doing what you are doing.

I'm another rare male, 6'3", and started at 475. Currently at 190 to 195.

Keep eating what you are eating until you are 10 pounds below your final goal. Calories will start creeping up on their own, so I wouldn't increase them on purpose. At least until you are done.

Weight training is great. Just don't use it as an excuse to eat more.

You maintenance calories will be whatever they need to be to maintain wour weight. It varies a bit for everyone. You'll just need to see where you end up. BUT. Be ready to make adjustments when you need to. No one eats the same way forever.

I'm a female so I'm not sure what adjustments need to be made when it's the opposite sex - it me it sounds like your calories are pretty good and I would not increase at all for sure - definitely regardless of increasing exercise or adding weights. You do not want to increase your calories just due to that.

You're only at the 6 month mark and close to your goal so congrats! I would keep doing what you're doing, unless it's trying to decrease the carbs - but that's just my personal thing lol.

I am only 6 weeks out and haven't experienced a stall, but I saw the doc yesterday and she promises me they will come. .:) she said she sees stalls as caused by three things...

  1. Not getting enough protein. Your body will fight losing weight if you aren't getting enough protein.
  2. Eating the exact same thing every day. I can already see myself falling into that,,,especially if you  struggle with tolerating stuff, I imagine it's easy to get in a rut of eating the same things because you feel safe with them.
  3. Exercising the exact same way for a long time. If your protein is good, you might swap out a day or two of your walk for that weight training. Or a day or two a week, alternate a fast walk or jog for a minute followed by a normal pace.

anyway...just thought I'd pass along her advice, untried by me at this point. :)

I never had a stall. I lost some every wee****il I was done. I always got a lot of protein -- way over the recommendation, every day. I don't know if that helped.

But I ate the same things, every day. I had, and still have, the most boring and limited diet of anyone I've seen. I have also seen several scientific studies that show a limited diet is much more conducive to weight loss and weight control than one that is much more varied.

This is what worked for me.
