I'm nervous and excited at the same time...

Any words of wisdom?  Anyone in the same place?

The first days on liquids will be tough. Knuckle down, and it will get better. After a week, it will be much easier.

Get a good running start going into surgery. Every habit you change, every pound you lose, will make life after surgery that much easier.

The hardest days for me were the second and third weeks after surgery. But, all of this is short term. A few weeks out of a lifetime. You can do a few weeks of pretty much anything, in exchange for a lifetime of better health. Right?

I just finished my first month.  Pre-op diet was hard for me, and I had a few last meals that I wish I had not had, but still lost 10 pounds.  My first two weeks after surgery were a breeze.  It does get hard, learning how to eat and not drink before/after meals, and how to retrain your mind.  But when you watch the pounds start to just fall away it is so very worth it.  First diet in my entire life (57 years) where I just know that when I get on the scale it will be a positive experience.

Good luck, do what your doctors say, post on here whenever you can, get advice when you have trouble, and look forward to a healthier you!

Relax. Men seem to have an easier time than us women, so you will be fine. Listen to Grim. He is a great wealth of knowledge and roll model. Stick around like him. We need more men here.

Listen to your doctor's plan, unless it sounds like a crappy plan (if the recommend Flintstones, Tums crackers, bread, run like the wind). Sadly some surgeons have horrible after-care plans and it is up to us to become our own advocates. We must research and do what is really best for us. No one else really cares.

Enjoy the ride. It's a doozy.

Congratulations your surgery.  Like Grimm said, I also found the first few days of the pre op the hardest.  By day 5 I was no longer hungry and committed to my up coming surgery.  I'm almost 4 weeks post op and still struggle with fluid but I'm getting there.  I'm losing  an average of a pound a day now and I'm down almost 30 lbs.  If this keeps up I will be at goal by Christmas.

Good luck, follow your plan and stay focused on the prize

My surgery is the 18th and currently I'm on day four of my liquid diet. All in all its not as bad as I thought it would be. Some aspects like the protein shakes are ruff for me since I can't stand them lol. I just keep the end goal in my head and remind myself that it will be so worth it in the end. Congrats on your surgery date and hoping the best for you.

I am on day 4 of the pre-op liquid diet. I can handle the drinks. But smelling my son's dinner. Makes me nervous I will never get to eat dinner with the family and I eating the same foods.  But then I think how much more things I can do with them when my health returns.

My surgery is the 21st. All set ready to go. Then I get a bill for thousands of dollars saying all the Psychiatric visits are my responsibility.  Provider billed medical insurance they denied. Finally got to bill behavioral health insurance and they denied. I could cry. I am not going to stop having the surgery. But sure wish these bills would disappear.  Any suggestion, words of comfort ?

I just finished day 4.  Other people eating doesn't bother me.  I'm just hungry!  I think that we give up a lot to have RNY but we get so much more in return.  Don't look at yourself as deprived.  Just focus on your new wonderful life.  The sacrifices you are making will pay you back 100 fold!

Where else can you get that deal?
