HELP!! 5 days post op from RNY
Do you mean the difficulty drinking, or the need to drink? We'll always need to drink, but the difficulty goes away fairly quickly. I forget when, but before you know it, you'll be drinking normaly.
I usually get about 200 ounces in a day. If I'm at 100 or 120 ounces, I start to feel kinda crappy.
Fluids solve a lot.

Will I be able to drink a lot more at a time after a while? I can get my 64 ounces in by focusing, but when you factor in not eating before or during or after meals, I cannot see how you possibly can get in 200 ounces a day. If I can get back to drinking nomally, maybe.
At one of our pre-WLS meetings, we were told a good practice was to never let a water bottle leave the hand those first few months. One of my favorite ways to get in a lot of ounces right away is when I wake dry and thirsty. Next to my bed is a radio and a bottle of water; over 20 ounces goes down the hatch while listening to the news channel. Then, I have a warm glass of water mixed with Miralax once up and in the kitchen. It feels good to get a bunch of water out of the way first thing.
I had to schedule my fluids and pu****er on my nightstand so I could start as soon as I woke up. It does get better of course but totally 'normal' for me didn't happen for 1 year. I did count all my fluids- coffee, tea, protein drinks etc...

I spoke to the nurse and she said my hunger pains were completely normal. She suggested I mix in some yogurt. Or even try some puréed foods since I have only 2 days before I'm a complete week out. I drank another muscle milk and it was 32 grams of protein. I had a popcicle and another 32 oz of water. I'm feeling a little better right now. But my stomach has been quezzy so I may take a phenegran and go to sleep.
I remember feeling hungry my second week postop. That was a hard week. The following week when I was able to start taking some solid food was much better. I haven't felt hungry since I started solids. M I remember feeling hungry my second week postop. That was a hard week.
