Anyone on Carafate (sucralfate)?
Carafate (sucralfate)...Due to many major but invisible health issues, I was put on Carafate. SO many issues went away! I'm to understand that Carafate is used to prevent and/or cure ulcers. Whatever it does, it helped.
Is anyone else on this? You have to take it on an empty stomach, 2 hours before or after any other meds including vitamins, etc. and 1 hour before and after any meal. I have to dissolve it in water. And it has aluminum in it. I am having such a hard time fitting it in my eating schedule and I don't know why. I have insomnia and often go to sleep between 4 and 6am, or not at all. I get up between noon and 4. The morning dose is a no brainer, but so am I, lol. If you've used Carafate, how did you schedule it in your day? I take three doses a day and eat three squares and two snacks a day, per surgeon's plan.
I have wicked dry mouth. Am going to go buy Biotin.
I know there's an answer to timing it, but my brain is outta whack and I can't figure it out. I'm embarrassed I'm even asking.
Yes, I take it and it's a PITA to schedule it :-) I leave a bottle near my bed so that I can take at least one dose in the middle of the night on a completely empty stomach. It's tasteless and it dissolves quickly so I just swi**** around in my mouth like mouthwash and then swallow. First dose is easy, like you said, right when you wake up. Second dose I take is 2 hours after breakfast protein bar. A third dose about an hour before dinner...and one before bed. My instructions are 4 times/day. You'll get the hang of it...good luck!

not currently on it, but i took it for several months when i had an ulcer.
i was diligent about taking it, but not so much about the method. I kept a bottle of it in my purse at all times and would take a swig out of it when i needed to. i never watered it down. (in retrospect i probably looked crazy but i was committed to my health!)
at first i had to keep a written timeline of when to take it, but i got so used to it that i eventually fit it into my lifestyle. i literally wrote out a daily timeline by hours and filled in my medication and my eating and i stuck to that timeline. pretty rigidly at first, but a bit more loosely as i healed.
it was funny taking that stuff through airport security. they would open the bottle and put a special wand over it to test it. i never had a problem.
best of healing to you! carafate is a magic juice!
