If you aren't seeing a therapist yet, I highly recommend adding one to Team You. There are so many emotions to deal with post-op, and this is the best time to deal with the underlying reasons of your obesity.

Thanks! I am checking into one right now. My husband's company has an Employee Assistance program that has up to 8 free sessions, and they're about to send me a list of providers within the next 72 hours or so. I'm excited to get some of these emotions sorted out. Thanks for the message!

Wonderful!
Finding a therapist that you click with can be challenging, but it's worth the effort. Just don't feel defeated if you don't like the first one you see. It might take a couple of tries!

Yes - definitely what Gwen said. I tried to see a therapist on and off over the last few years and never clicked with the first 2 I saw so I gave up. Then I had the surgery and a few months after I did I was feeling like it sounds you are and I was pretty low. I called around to quite a few places and got in with one I hadn't seen before and I completely love her and have been seeing her for the last year now. I try to tell people that so they don't get totally bummed when they don't magically find their therapy soul mate immediately.
Good luck!
Thanks! I hope I find one i can click with sooner or later. I need to get my head fixed!
You all are the greatest. So glad I joined this site!

You sound like I did in my first month. One thing that helped me was knowing that it is common to experience depression after surgery. It is connected to the anesthesia leaving the system. I was so glad that one of the nurses talked to me about post op depression. I was prepared for it and when it hit I knew the cause and that it would be temporary.
I am a revision and I failed my first surgery and I really think that one of the reasons I am doing better now is because I know I dump.
I ate a lot of sugar after my first surgery because I could. And now I avoid it like the devil because I know what happens. I am one of those who needs the negative reinforcement. I had planned not to test it out and just assume I dumped but I accidentally had some and found out for sure. I have had a few such experiences and now I am religious about making sure there is no sugar in what I am eating.
Anyway, after a rough first few weeks things have gotten a lot better and now this is my new normal and I am perfectly fine living without sugar. It really does get better.
