Thanks for this post. I love hearing about other experiences that sound like what I'm going through, and the outcome (which is always coming out better after time). It gives me such hope! I'm on a high tonight, so reading this just helps put a cherry on that momentary happy sundae.

Such great advice as always. People who know me, know I have no filter. So with love: ' I didn't get to walk today' ?? Why.....YOU are worth what ever it takes to make the time for YOU!!! I suffer even 13 plus years from anxiety and depression. Weight loss didn't change a thing there but what helps me the most is exercise. For me, it's riding my bike. Make time for you!

Haha! Thank you. I will definitely get a walk or two in tomorrow. I'm also going back to the gym tomorrow, doing what ever time i can on the ellyptical that my body will allow at this point. Thanks for the tough love, it wasn't bad at all.

I used to be on Lexapro for the anxiety..it really helped ..but I had some side effects that I didn't like so I had to stop taking them.  Now I often use a a supplement L-Tryptophan , or 5-Http. Those are natural - OTC.. and with low carb diet - I needed something to help to raise my serotonin level.  I chose good brand (manufacturer) to make sure i get what I am paying for..(ono walmart brand).

tryptophan is an amino acid - and it may help with some issues...(turkey meat is high in tryptophan)

Achelle, this surgery is very much "instant". I think you can try to imagine before surgery how it will be but after surgery reality hits. I think you are to hard on yourself, it's only been a month!  Of course you are mourning food and its comfort, you don't have it anymore "instantly". I say embrace it, one day at a time ?  Take this amazing opportunity to find other comforts. Of course this will take time, you are at the beginning of of a new journey.  Relax, follow your doctors orders and when the weight falls off, and you resume your health I hope you find the happiness you sought out with this journey ???

I think most of us suffered the depression that you are talking about soon after surgery! I know that I did! I promise it gets better! You'll be so happy that you did this! I thought the first month post-op was the worst, and it improved gradually as I  progressed in the different food phases. It's a total shock to your system, but your body and mind will soon adjust to your new lifestyle. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you went through the same. Reaffirmation that it gradually gets better is always great.

Very few RNYERS about (30 percent) dump. I do but it does not affect my quality of life. In fact it keeps me away from the sweets that helped me get to 275 in the first place and encourages me to stay on track. Even if I accidentally eat a sauce with sugar in it it makes me miserable for45 minutes and then I am fine. The head issues and dealing with stress and boredom without food is truly a day by day and choice by choice thing. Working with a counselor truly can help. Overall my RNY 4 years ago was my best decision ever. I no longer have diabetes, high cholesterol and triglycerides and high blood pressure. Instead of wearing tight size 28 pants I now fit comfortably in a size 0 or 1 and have been the same size for almost 31/2 years. I still weigh and measure and track every bite of food I eat but now this is my new normal and is so worth it. Your day will come too when you realize this is your new way of life and you are so happy to have a full healthy life back. Hang in there until then!
