What about her protein? It is low.
I am assuming that they did protein albumin for the blood protein (well, when I worked in lab that is what we did but we only did two unique tests).
At any rate, provided IF it is protein albumin, the wisdom of the internet says "- Low albumin levels can also be seen in inflammation, shock, and malnutrition.".
Not to blame the patient, but do you have an infection or chronic disease? How does your diet look?

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
6.2 is low - and it may make her more tired - but as far as I know - it is not critically low...it should not trigger the "freezing cold" sensation...

I've had 3 episodes in the last 4 months. I have chills so bad I can't hold a glass to my lips. It lasts about a day. I don't eat or drink anything and sleep most of the day. The next day I'm totally exhausted. No energy. I start eating and drinking water again and by the end of the second day I'm completely normal. I'm 7 years out from surgery and feel fine otherwise. Anyone have these symptoms or experiences? My doctor says I must be low on iron but my blood test doesn't show it. Any ideas?
Thanks very much,
Sharon
I also say it is your iron / ferritin being too low. I would ask for copies of all my labs since surgery and track them yourself. I bet you will see a gradual drop from one time to the next, still in the normal range but dropping still.
Now is the time for you to get involved with your own care. I was tracking my labs and they were good and steady then one day I had lab work and the next day I was havng a blood transfusion and being sent for IV iron infusions.I was also very cold then.
Mess around with this and you will likely be sorry you did.
thank you so much for your help. I knew if I asked the pros I would get a good answer. I saved all my labs through the years so I will definitely compare them. I never thought of doing that. I'm having extensive blood work done on Thursday demanding the dr. do all the tests that were done in the beginning. If he doesn't want to authorize them I'll change drs.
Gosh you guys have made me feel better. I shouldn't have waited so long to ask for help. You guys are great. thanks so much.
You have gotten lots of great info... as someone with low protein levels, make sure they do a pre-albumin test not just a total protein. Pre-albimun is supposed to be more accurate.
Also your thyroid is 'low-normal' so as Hala said make sure they are doing all aspects of testing. With thyroid the results are kinda backwards- you want lower numbers. I have tested where my T4 showed up fine and T3 was low.

Hi everyone - I got my blood test results back or at least some things. He still didn't do all I asked for.
Hemoglobin A1c 6.0
glucose level 104
bun/creatinine ratio 30
total protein 6.2
albumin lvl 2.9
globulin 3.3
ALT 202
AST 68
bilirubin total 0.5
Alk phos 337
B12 level >2000
T4 1.17
T3 2.0
Ferritin 56
I asked for a Rbc and Wbc but evidently they didn't do it because it's not on the report.
He thinks everything is pretty normal and he isn't worried about any of the results because nothing is "stand out" shouting at him.
What do you guys think - and thanks again for all your help - you guys are more interested in my health than my PCP.
Have you been to a gynecologist? I would have her do tests also, could be hormonal in nature. I have never experienced exactly what you describe and it doesn't really seem reasonable to me that you would get spells that last only a day if you had a severe vitamin deficiency, typically you would stay run down and keep getting worse.
You are positive this isn't reactive hypoglycemia? I get super shaky, sweaty, feel terrible when I get an episode.
Good Luck.
