I can eat anything and everything I want...as long as I am willing to deal with the consequences. Those can be - dumping, or getting sick,  or  being in pain, or gaining weight.  RH - reactive hypoglycemia is one of the realkynbad side effects I get when I eat sugary stuff...

Most carby things may trigger sugar cravings the same day or the next and the next after....once I get on "a sugar or carb  binge" it is often very hard to stop... I don't like feeling like I had to eat this or that...

When I limit carbs and sugars for a few days (white knuckle it -ugh) the cravings often go away...but the 2-3 days decarbing could be brutal.

Next Saturday will be nine years.  I can and do eat anything.  As long as I don't exceed 1400 calories a day I stay at my 136 pound goal.  If I creep up to 1800 or more calories a day the scale goes up.

Great question. I have no good response, as I'm only about 4-5 weeks out from my surgery, so I'm still in full diet mode. You had a great question and many great responses. I am concerned about quality of life due to discomfort, tolerance, and dumping, but the responses on this thread are great.  So glad I joined this site today! I'm in serious need of a support group!

Now going on 14 years post op RNY. I can eat all of the above except ice cream. As Grim stated, I can eat the bun but choose not to . I am not on a 'diet' I just know I still can eat very little and so kind of picky what I choose to fill up on.

Can't do ice cream anymore, makes me nauseous.

I have had small brownies, small pieces of cake, a cookie, etc on special occasions but if I don't follow up with a protein I get reactive hypoglycemia.

No buns for me, puts me over my carb count.  But lots of hot dogs :)

And I have had no probs with fried food itself.  But it's the breading that gets me.

After the two week pre op and two week post op liquid diet, even cottage cheese tastes good. As far as Dairy Queen, just look at the calories of a small shake. I gave that up months ago. A premier protein shake with a banana or strawberries blended could be just as tasty.  It's in your mind.

After being 305 for the better part of my life, I lost 130 pds with the band  the band came out in February due to complications and I just revised to rny  9/14.  The sweet taste of being thin beats the taste of a hot dog or Dairy Queen shake. It's worth the lifestyle change.
