Finally Approved!
After all sorts of insurance stupidity, I've finally been approved for RnY! I'm so very excited!
I'm scheduled for surgery on October 27, 2016, and that day can't come fast enough for me. I even installed an app on my phone that allows me to set up a countdown that includes days, hours, minutes, and seconds until Surgery Day arrives.
Roux en Y on 10/27/2016

Congrats! It will fly by, along with the first 6 months after! (At least in my experience) :-) Good luck and I hope it comes quickly for you.
Hi, Sumaire!
I actually got started on my journey when I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus as a result of my GERD. Barrett's is pre-cancer, so something needed to be done. One of the first articles I read about it mentioned that Roux-en-Y is a pretty sure cure for it. And it has been for me. I am still on Nexium, still sleeping with head of bed elevated, etc., but I know I won't always be. That is exciting. I had a bit of heartburn right after surgery so my surgeons switched me over to a H2 antagonist briefly. I guess I had been on Nexium for so long it wasn't working anymore, and it is possible to get ulcers at the incision site if acid isn't strongly controlled. Now for the first time in years, I have no more heartburn. I am thrilled.
