Looks like I still have lots of time to prepare

My appointment to meet the surgeon is November 25th. The person that called to tell me told me to expect to have surgery in the spring. I'm fairly certain that she's giving me the worst case scenario.

Yesterday I was really disappointed. Today, I'm ok. At least whatever weight I manage to lose pre-op will stay off so I'm going to focus on that. Starting Monday I'm back on the menu board and tracking in MFP. Gym membership starts on Wednesday so I will start using that as well.

Either way I'm in the home stretch, no matter how long the stretch is.

I honestly don't think it will be that far out. I had my surgeon appt also TWH on 7/22/16 & was given 11/25/16 surgery date and was called with an earlier date for 10/4/16. I would call weekly for cancellations, Andrew in reception is amazing and very helpful if he can he will get you appointment bumped up. You have a great attitude and are so ready for this.

In July I was also very discouraged I had to wait until end of November for my surgery so I decided to use the time to commit to changing my eating and decided to log all my meals on MFP and lost a total of 37 lbs whi*****ludes a loss of 12lbs since starting opti on Sept 13th.

Best wishes and keep us posted and updated. :-)

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I honestly can't see it taking until spring and I will definitely call for cancellations. My friend told me it's hard to get in earlier to see the surgeon but I can try.

I can't stress enough how important it is to utilize this time and change your ways entirely. Follow all the after weight loss instructions beginning now and really prepare. Don't be afraid of adjusting everything and losing too much weight. Trust me, I wish I would have done this. After surgery, it was a huge shock to me what life was like. I physically couldn't eat the way I was use to and didn't desire most of the same things but when I did want some of my old favorites, they just made me sick and I took all the changes very hard. I also think back and realize how much closer to goal I would be now if I could have lost a few more pounds during the pre-op period. Good luck to you and try not to be down about the length of time but be thankful that you can prepare and be more successful once you reach the other side because of it :-)

I know it seems like a very long time.  But losing weight and keeping it off is forever.  It is a mindset.  The surgery changes your body, but you still have to work on your mind.  So... the results may not be as quick as with the surgery, but you can start your lifelong...all your life...change.  Work on eating slow---even when you overeat.  Work on not drinking with your food.  Work on exercise.  If you don't do anything, just walk.  You will never feel like jumping around, but after you lose weight, it will be easier.  It really boils down to habits.  Use this time to develop good habits.  If you go off track, practice getting back on track sooner.  I use to pig out for several hours, I now pick myself up sooner.  I am still working on skills. They are a lifetime change of mind and habit.  My weight is down, but I am still working on habits.  I am afraid that when the total bypass wears off (2-3 years your body accilimates) my food volume will have to be less than what I am currently eating.    So....even after the surgery you will need to change your habits.  It takes a long time to not turn to food through an emotional crisis, or boredom or disappointment.  So, don't be discouraged, use this time to work on your mind and habits.
