Blood sugar
I am 6 1/2 yrs. post-op. I never had blood sugar issue before or after surgery until the last couple of months. Suddenly I can't keep my blood sugar up. It will go up for a short time right after eating but within hours it is down to 60-70 sometimes even in the 40's. Dr. did labs about 2 months ago and said all was well with bs. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
It's most likely reactive hypoglycemia. We can help more if you let us know what you've been eating.

yes to the above. i am having similar troubles 3+ years out. make sure you are tracking every single thing that you put into your mouth. then track each time you feel dizzy, flushed, faint, need to lay down, etc. hopefully you will be able to see a pattern. i am still trying to figure this out myself!

YES, YES, YES!!! I am 8 years out, (lost 190 lbs.) and had a fall recently following a severe low blood sugar crash. Had to call the paramedics and everything. It was super scary.
At my bariatric surgeon's office about a week later, my wonderful Nurse Practitioner informed me that the medical community is now in agreement that this is a definite side effect for those who have had RNY!! Further, the more out you get from your surgery, the higher the likelihood of getting this.
There is tons of medical literature online now about it. Do a Google Search for reactive hypoglycemia following bariatric surgery or postprandial hypoglycemia following bariatric surgery, etc.
My nurse told me that it's not even chemical, that it's more about some weird thing that happens to the actual mechanics of our stomachs/pouches/stomas as we get further out. She's 10 years out herself and went through it, too. She said it got to the point that even when she ate protein she crashed!
I've been dealing with it for about three weeks now and it's still trial and error on eating. Things I've eaten for years, (Atkins stuff, toast!), I can't eat now without a scary crash an hour or two later.
The normal glucose testing they do does not work for this for diagnosis. Your labs will come back fine. I am about to have an upper GI series and then an endoscopy to see just what's going on mechanically in there.
Get to a doctor that has experience with post-bariatric surgery low blood sugar! And when you get some of the medical literature in your hands, give it to whatever doc told you your blood work was fine. You might help them to catch up with the science and save someone's life!
