Hello, everyone!  I've been reading posts here for a few weeks, but this is the first time I'm posting.

I had my pre-op consult visit last week, and my RNY is scheduled for October 10. I'm very excited, and I've been reading everything I can. I've also been trying to establish the habits I need after my surgery. I had no idea how hard it would be not to drink while eating! Thankfully, I have a very supportive husband who, though worried about me having surgery, is 100% on board with it, as are the rest of my family. I think my PCP nearly started crying when I told him I was thinking about having the RNY, he was so happy. My health is mostly good, but I'm starting to show some insulin resistance, my energy level sucks, and my joints always hurt. I'm a nurse in a very busy cardiovascular ICU, so I don't have time to be tired and in pain all the time.

My surgeon feels that mid-200s would be a realistic goal for me, so I've decided to shoot for 225. I'm hoping to lose more than that, but I can always stretch it later. Better to be realistic and lose more than set a goal I can't achieve. I figure, even though 225 is still overweight, it's 185 pounds less than what I'm carrying around now!

I'm really excited. For the first time in ages, I feel like I have hope. I've done so many diets, and they don't work, at least not long-term.

Congratulations,  this will be the best  decision  you make for you.  It's tough  I just had mine last Wednesday and just got home today.  It's hard to drink so much as well as the walking.  In the hospital I walked several times a day, (kept hearing in my head, walk like its your job) lol.  Now I wonder how I will get up and down the stairs all stapled up.  I will get through  this and so will you.  The people on this site are awesome and really good at getting back with answers  to your questions.

Good luck

Wow, why so long in the hospital? I thought maybe two days at most?

Yes that is usually the case.  I had alot of pre existing issues and knew this going  in.  Won't happen to you.

Congratulations! The drinking thing was probably the hardest habit for me. :) The first time you forget post op you'll remember much better, lol.

the not-drinking-while-eating was hard for me pre-surgery, but I got used to it really fast once I was post-op.  It's second nature now...
