Food Amounts - RNY
Hey there! I have been on pureed since my surgery. My experience: you do not know until you try. My instructions are to start and stop as soon as I start to feel full. That has been anywhere from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup, depending on how dense the food is. Thin soups I can eat a bit more. I had refried beans last night and ate too much... Was about 1/3 cup. (But boy, was it good) Thin protein drinks like Pure Protein I can drink almost the entire can in about 30 minutes, but Premier Protein takes forever.
For me, the real problem has been getting my calorie intake above 300-400, and I am supposed to be at least 600.
Did your surgeon give you guidelines to follow? 1/4 cup of cream soup and a laughing cow doesn't sound like too much, but only the surgical team will be able to tell you how large they made your pouch. You're still healing, and you won't get any real feeling back in your pouch for a while yet. It'll be surprising at how much more restriction you feel at 6 weeks out, than you do now, because you will be able to FEEL how full your pouch is.
But personally, I think 1/4 cup of soup and a laughing cow sounds like a good amount of food at your state.
Hi
I am new here and had my RNY on September 9th. I have to be on mostly liquids for two weeks, except for pudding and yogurt. For those that had surgery near that time what are you allowed to eat?
I had my surgery September 9 and have been on a blended/pureed diet since, for two weeks. Next Friday I start soft foods. Right now my favorite foods are yogurt and pureed chili and refried beans, with a LOT of hot sauce! But my protein comes mainly from protein shakes. I am allowed mostly anything as long as it is pureed, but most things don't sound very good.
Can you have a wide variety of blended foods? I am going slow, one thing at a time and then after the first couple of spoonfuls I stop just to make sure it agrees ;). Just tried a bit of mashed potato made with protein milk, cottage cheese and hot sauce. Strange but good!
I had my surgery on 9/7 and for the first 2 weeks, I'm on a full liquid diet. Meaning, protein shakes, strained low-fat cream soup, broth, yogurt, cream of wheat, SF popiscles, pudding, and jello. Weeks 3 & 4 are pretty much the same for me, except I no longer have to strain the soup, can eat cooked beans and FF refried beans have pureed veggies and fruits with no seeds or skins.
Pretty boring stuff, but I haven't felt hungry yet!
