I got my bypass ...

... and I have had a remarkably easy recovery with only two minor problems so far.  I had the surgery on August 18 and it went so well, so smoothly.  I was surrounded by professionals that really seemed to know what they were doing.  One of my two problems is nausea about a half hour after eating.  I have done a search on this and the answers I have found have to do with dumping syndrome.  I don't think that could be what is going on (or could it?) because I am not eating sweets, so I suppose I am just eating too much too fast and not chewing as well as I should?  I am trying to eat mainly soft foods to avoid this problem, so nothing really NEEDS much chewing.  So far i have not vomited but have had a few close calls.

Secondly, tomorrow will be one month and I have only lost 20 pounds!!  I am a little disappointed in myself.  Should I be?

Also, can someone tell me where to get the graph most people seem to have on their posts, showing how much weight has been lost?  I guess 20 pounds in the first month is not so shabby that I don't want to advertise it a little.

Go to the Post Op Planner in Recourses and put your numbers in to see how much to expect to lose each month.

I really appreciate having the post-op planner because it shows me that maybe I was over-hoping a bit.  I wanted to be under 200 pounds by my two month followup.  Now I no longer feel like "there is something wrong with me."  I was wondering.

Many of us had unrealistic expectations.  Surgery does not make you lose any faster than a traditional diet but it gives you a tool to keep the lost weight off for life.

I think that's it.  I saw so many people on You Tube who were losing a pound a day I thought that was the expectation.  But using that calculator I see that is not what I should expect.  My BMI is not as high as most when they first get the surgery I suppose.  I only have about 110 pounds to lose.

BTW, I should say there is no way I could have lost 20 pounds in a month without surgery.  The most I was ever able to lose was 10 pounds, and that was only by starvation and exercise for at least an hour per day.

are you getting all of your fluids in?  AT LEAST 64 ounces.  Dehydration can cause nausea.  Also, if you're eating dairy or soft foods that have a higher carb count, it's just like eating sugar.  What are you eating when you're getting sick?  Sugar can cause dumping, but so can carbs.

I am definitely getting in 64 ounces of liquid easily.  I was able to drink unlimited liquids from day 1 after surgery, which is kind of weird perhaps.

I am staying away from sugar and flour, but not counting calories.  No one has told me to count calories or to worry about volume of food, but just not to drink liquids with it, chew at least 30 times, etc.
