Meat bombs again
I tried meat again tonight. This time it was a beef roast, very shredded and and soft. It started out o****il it WAS NOT. I eventually threw it up. First time I've vomited since surgery. I'm still pretty mise rable. I'm done with meat for a couple of weeks at least. I had my post op yesterday and the dietician got in my head. He says when we come back for our six week check, we should be done with protein shakes, and not living on yogurt and cheese, etc. It's hard to imagine being that far along right now. I have handled the very soft stuff just fine, but dense protein feels a long way away, and I don't know how I'll get enough protein without it to get off shakes.

Hi Cathy, didn't you have your surgery just a few weeks ago? I know every center has different schedules. Try not to get in a panic about what the dietician said. You just had major surgery and your insides need time to heal. Have your protein shake, have you checked out eggface? She has amazing recipes for every stage. Just go slow and listen to your body. Good luck.
Cathy, what about a soup? I made a couple with chicken and pureed them. Also what about a chowder with salmon or other fish? I am still a bit behind you, have not got to that stage yet. Of course I am watching whatever you do very carefully... I already have trouble with red meat.
Though I was cleared to try all foods after 2 months, my surgeons office warned me that red meat was the most difficult and I might want to wait until 4 months. I did and was glad - steak still only goes down well when just cooked and still somewhat moist. Leftover dry steak feels like it gets stuck.
just want to mention that though I had VSG, my surgeon gives the same eating advice for RNY patients.

I tried turkey meatballs right at 2 weeks out and ended up in the ER in massive pain. I had to reset. I'd stick with canned meats (tuna, chicken) and maybe stick with some refried beans or softer foods for a few more days yet.
also, I know people had said over and over again, but make sure you eat very slowly and chew the food until there is nothing left to chew.
I had no problem with moist ground beef app 2 months post op... But beef roast ' it was close to a year before I could eat more than a bite. Even now ' I can eat 3-4 oz ... But I can eat 8 oz of chicken. Or fish...
Looks like you are picking meats that are more difficult for a lot of us.
Btw - moist meat - like chicken dark meat may be easier at the beginning.
