I Forgot I Had Surgery

So... I was up going to the bathroom in the night and got thirsty.  My water bottle had fallen under the bed, so I took the glass on the sink, filled it up with water from the faucet and drank it.  The whole glass.  I am still getting around slowly, so I was just taking my time about getting up, when I realized what I had done.  Took a few minutes but then the noise and pain started.  Oh my goodness. It was a long half hour until it started feeling better.   I had thought my pouch would be in the center of my chest, but I think it is closer to the left... So much pain over there!

For those of you who may have done that... It does not damage anything, does it?  I had visions of a balloon popping for a while!

Also, while in surgery my surgeon thought he saw a mass on my liver, so I had an ultrasound while still admitted.  Results came back this morning... I have steatosis or a fatty liver.  When I looked that up, said the treatment is losing weight, slowly.  Lol.  I got 300 calories in yesterday.

I want to relieve your mind... I did the same thing and called my surgeon... He said " girl please, you didn't damage anything, we blow that pouch up with pressurized air trying to make it leak while your under so we can watch and make sure "

thise are his exact words so I think you'll be ok . If you have any pain past today I would call your surgeon though .

Sounds like you are on the right track to correct a fatty liver. My surgeon found a mass on my intestines and it turned out I had an ectopic pancreas.....he said it had to have formed while I was just a fetus.... Off topic but I just wanted to share lol

Your pouch has an opening on the top and on the bottom.  Right now it is swelled so slow to drain, but it will not pop like a balloon.  I was able to drink a full glass of water after about a week.  Before that I sipped slowly.

Ohigo****otally did the same thing, and thought the same as you (you just sent me down memory lane - the dark side!).

On my first day going back to work (about 2.5 weeks out)... I forgot.  It sounds strange, but it's an easy thing to do.

I had a 12 ounce glass filled with Crystal Lite that I'd been sipping on since about 5am.  At 8am when it was time to leave the house - I noticed I hadn't finished my drink and wanted to wash and put the glass away before leaving.  I completely forgot I had a new stomach and reached over and downed about 9 ounces, all at once.

I thought I was going. to. DIE!

I'll never forget that pain.  I was doubled over the sink for 45 minutes.  I was sure I ruptured something in there.  I called me doc and he re-assured me I would be okay.  Swollen for a few days (boy, was I)... and he just told me to take it super easy and slow until I felt better.  I ended up taking another 3 days off work before going back because of my stupid little stunt.

I learned my lesson - it never happened again.

So sorry this happened to you - be prepared to be sore for awhile, and good luck.

I did that a couple months after surgery.  I got done riding my bike and chugged a bunch of water - ouch!  I felt better after a half an hour or so though.  I'm sure it's very common!

Hi Cheryl,

I can so see myself doing that.  I've actually thought about not keeping water on my night stand so I don't reach over and do that.  If I have to get up to get it, might give me time to think about what i'm doing.

Glad to hear your ok

One of those things that are only needed to be lived through ONCE to make it stick in your mind!

I felt the same "heart attack" feeling when I ate some bread about a week post-op.  O.M.G.  Never again!

Hang in there;  you still have to live through the Foamies!

hi guys, I did that about a week ago, and at 7.5 years out, it still hurt, I would have sworn that glass was full of rocks and glass shards! I do have to say, It wasn't as bad as when I did it at 3 months though.>..
