The ground beef did not go well

i think it's stuck. :( I wanted to die for about 15 minutes. Then it settled down though it felt like a knot in my chest. Then 40 minutes later I tried a sip of water and the bad pains/spasms/slimes started again. I was going to have a protein shake before bed but I am done. Hope it feels better in the morning. Egg, canned chili, and cottage cheese all went fine.

awwww feel better Cathy!  Ground beef to this day for me at almost 3 yrs post op is one of the foods that just sits okay in my pouch, not great, not bad, just okay.  For me personally its one of the last meats on my list unless I have in say a Chili where its very saucy, but a hamburger sits very heavy for me.  We are all so different in what bothers us.

Lots of food early on may not sit well, so just park it on the shelf for a while and move on to something else. Try it again in a few weeks and see how it goes, might be great, might not.  There are some foods for some of us that just never sit well post surgery.

Tomorrow be kind to your pouch, stick with soft foods and more on the slider side, think yogurt, your pouch might be extra sensitive tomorrow so go easy.

hope you get some rest and relief, getting food stuck is horrible happened to me once and it was so bad I wanted to die.

have a good night

Yikes.  I am sticking with yogurt jello and shakes.  So sorry you had that experience.  Your post reminds me that I have to go very, very slowly.

Chewable papaya enzyme tablets might be worth having on hand to help dissolve protein.  Egg can still give me trouble from time to time.  Things I use to moisten food in order of preference:  1. lemon juice 2. water 3. butter/oils  4. ketchup/mustard 6.  mayo/dressing 7. au jus.  TIP:  A great buy and a favorite is a 7.5 ounce bottle of Minute Maid Premium 100% pure lemon juice sold next to frozen cans of orange juice.

I have had no luck with the papaya enzymes... I have even chewed 3-4 of them and still no relief. I wish they worked for me :(

Thanks all,

by bedtime I had a small sip of water when I brushed my teeth with mild discomfort. This morning I'm drinking ok,,,vaguely nauseous, but that might be in my head. I'm kinda gun shy, lol. Trying to decide if I really chewed well enough. I was very distracted, meals with four kids are something of a three ring circus. In any case, I'll stick with softer protein for a little while.

I still struggle with ground beef 12 years out.  I'm the special snowflake who has to have chicken or shrimp at a cookout/sports game etc.  I'm ok if it's in a sauce, such as chili, bolognese etc but hamburgers, meatballs etc are still

The reason they grind the beef is because it is too dry and too tough to eat otherwise.  Ground beef can still make me sick.

White Dove provided a good explanation.  I am 6 months out and cannot eat ground beef unless it is of the very fatty variety.  I will puke it up.  Even the fatty stuff doesn't sit well and I can only eat about two ounces of it.
