Getting enough protein!!!
I now understand the difficulty. When people posted about not being able to get enough, I thought "oh I will just have two premier proteins a day". Famous last words. I got only one half of one yesterday. They are sickly sweet to me now. I tried rhe unjury chicken broth this morning. Got about 1/3 scoop worth but could not fini**** I am now working on a greek yogurt with 13 grams... That is, if I could get enough in. Water is easier, but this protein business is very difficult. Does that get better quickly?
it gets better but not 'quickly'. It takes work and a whole bunch of trial and error. Just keep working at finding things that work well and keep track of everything. One day of not enough protein is not a big deal but several days in a row can be a big deal. Best of luck!

I'm finding a glass of 1% milk helps. Even, if I just have a half of a cup, and sip it for 1/2 an hour. I didn't get the feeling my clinic wanted me to subsist on too many protein drinks, so I'm trying to just have one a day, but yes, definitely hard in the first few days to get all of that protein in. My clinic was more interested in us sipping about 1 L of full fluids per day than the protein count for the first 2 weeks. :-)
I got 19 calories the first day out. 80 calories yesterday. So far today I have about 150... Yay! But absolutely no appetite. This is some wild ride
I found I had to start tracking back into Myfitnesspal because I had absolutely no idea what I was getting in the first day or 2. The last 2 days I got around 550 calories and over 60 g of protein, but I feel so full and like I'm eating all of the time.
Today I tried high protein instant porridge prepared with 1/2 cup of 1% milk and then added 1/2 cup of 1% of milk. It took well over an hour to eat and now it feels like glue in my belly.
My husband and kids were laughing at how long it took me to eat a tiny yogurt.
i know! I am still working on this one 5 ounce yogurt! I am working so diligently a****er, protein, walking, coughing... It is literally a full time job.
Wow, my "meals" are 1oz medicine cup. That's it, that's all. I'm supposed to eat meals 5 times a day. Nothing 30 min before and after, 20 min for the meal.
I'm going to try to cut a premier strawberry protein with Simply smart 0% fat milk(more protein) to see if it tastes better.
Same surgery but so many different diet plans!

Awww yes this "Side" is very different post op eh?!
A lot of stuff seems way to sweet when you are newly post op, I was right there with you. That is why a lot of people like the Syntrax Nectar Protein powders, they mix with water and its not the sugary milky sweet stuff of Premier Protein.
Also when you get cleared for soft foods, do check out the "World According to Eggface" she has so much stuff for post op patients for all the stages. Her website saved me a lot of "how am I going to get my protein in I just can't drink another shake!" days.
Take our advice CJ, drink your fluids, walk and burp and fart and do your best on getting your protein in, you are only what 4 days post op, take it slow, go easy on your new insides, you just had MAJOR surgery, and everything is healing, it takes time to "figure" it all out.
Keep asking questions its a fun, exciting, scary and overwhelming time when you are newly post op, we are all here to help!
Oh and make sure you are going to the bathroom, #2 that is, you don't want to get backed up, trust me it will be a world of hurt if you do!
All the best,
Daisy

They had me using medicine cups too. 2 medicine cups of shake plus three medicine cups of water every hour. Took me four hours to get each shake down that way. Then I'd start another one the same way. When it got easier, and I was doing stuff around the house, I'd put the shake in the fridge and take a couple swigs each time I passed by, lol.
