Question
I just had surgery on 9/7. All the material from my doctor says that from now on I should have between 60-80 grams of protein. Before surgery I was drinking 5 Premier Proteins a day (which are 30 grams a piece). Do you think I should only drink 2 and get in 60 or drink 3 and get in more protein than is required.
My clinic said not to worry about vitamin or protein amounts for the first 2 weeks and instead focus on sipping, resting and walking. After 2 weeks, then they would like us to pay more attention to the protein amounts and what specifically we are doing to get that protein in. Also, it depends on your clinic, but some may not want you "drinking" all of your calories/protein.
Are you on clear fluids first or full fluids? My clinic is full fluids - This isn't my site, but this is the same page I was given: http://mymountainmatrix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/KMBT2 5020151013160340.pdf
If you have more protein than your body needs it can cause issues with your kidneys and other things, so pay attention to that, especially if you've had kidney stones, etc.
Good luck!

you need to drink all the protein shakes you can. Your surger is a malabsorption one do you are not even absorbing all the protein you are drinking.
Lab work is the only way to tell how much you are absorbing and that is why we drink all we can early on.
