How long does Miralx take?

Things that worked for me:  drinking 20+ ounces of warm water with a capful of Miralax first thing in the morning, keeping a water bottle in my hand throughout the day, taking a morning walk or doing bend-over housework like scrubbing out the bathtub, increasing healthy fats like olive oil or avocado, taking a probiotic, eating Activia yogurt, and what made a giant difference--nearly eliminating beloved cheese.  It is a good thing  to figure out what works for you pre-op; it is better not to strain post-op when your insides are healing.  My biggest mistake was not treating constipation as an ongoing problem getting in trouble when letting up on prevention.

I have divaticulitus  and had a ruptured colon 5 yrs ago.  This scares the heck out of me.  I never want to end up on a colostomy  bag again.   Have serious doubts right now about this.

Hi! Have you been able to reach someone at your surgeons office to get some advice?

Yes, they referred me-Rays to my PCP, I went to Urgent care today and was sent to the ER for

X-Rays to check for blockage.  No blockage ,so that was good, but I basically got a $500.00 enema (my ER Co-Pay)

I'm really concerned about how many have people issue's with this.  I'm deathly afraid of another ruptured color issue because of backup.

I'm seriously having second thoughts about this whole process right now.  There have been so many scary stories lately, and now this.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I am a miralax daily person (I had constipation issues prior to surgery already). Between miralax, a probiotic and coffee I seem to be okay most of the time with only needing to use a stool softener a few times. I hope that you can find something that works for you. Hang in there.

I think it takes courage to have thoughts of postponing or backing out.  It gave me peace to be told patients have the right to cancel the very last second of the very last day.  A friendly suggestion to discuss in depth with medical professionals for either their validation of your concerns or to help give you confidence to forge ahead. Either way, all the best, Karen.

The "trouble urinating" thing made me wonder if you are even drinking enough. That would make you constipated too. With your history, I would get very detailed instructions on how to handle this post-op. If you develop a true blockage and take mag citrate you could rupture your bowel. I feel for you. My mom has diverticulitis and has suffered a lot with it. She totally swears by good probiotics.

Use a suppository.  If that doesn't work then head to the hospital.
