Clothes shopping: So much fun! And when is it too much?

Thank you for reminding me to feel good about myself.  Guilt is something I really am working on.  It is one thing to feel guilty for doing something wrong, and another to feel guilty for taking care of myself.  I really am struggling with feeling like taking care of myself is "bad" or "shallow."  So shopping creates huge internal conflict!

I do not shop online for clothes - I just browse, put in the shopping basket, see the total of my would be order and delete it.

I just think shopping online is not worth the trouble if it does not fit, you have to send it back (and right now it is hard to decide by picture if things might fit, since every major manufacturer uses different measurements)

So I limit myself to actual Stores and pay CASH for all my own clothes. This way I can not overspend, when I do not have the money on me, I can not PAY for it.

Good luck!

Thank you for this.  Yes, it really can be a pain to return online shopping.  And it does mean quite an expense on the credit card while I try things on at home.  I do send back almost all because of color or sizing, etc. , and keep only the best or only option that works. I like the idea of using the online shopping as a way of just window shopping.  What I tend to do is look online for ideas.  If I see something I really love, I put it in the cart, then watch for it to go on sale.  If I still love it, and cans still use it, and if it is left in my size, and if the price has come down enough, then I will buy it.

I joined an online style service.   The site is called misssmartypants.com

When I joined, I sent a picture and filled out a questionnaire.  That was used to determine my body type and best styles to flatter it.

Every week you get a newsletter with up to date fashion items and links to buy them.  Everything is picked for your personal body type and is set up to make complete outfits with separates that can go with many other items.

Missussmartypants whose name is Leslie also did my colors.  So I am able to buy clothes that fit well and are the right color for me.

The $50 or so that I spent on the site saved me thousands because there is nothing in my closet that is not a good fit and the right color for me.

This is a great link.  Thanks very much!  And since your husband calls you "Miss America," we know you must be very stylish.  :-)

I am no help! I am still in the mindset of "If I don't get it, I won't find anything." So not true, in fact opposite as I can find everything and want everything and I have have always had a shopping addiction but more after surgery. My closet is packed and I switch for the cold/warm seasons. I have so much that I never get to wear it all, shoes and designer jeans are the worst and most are on sale or from poshmark when I got rid of my old clothes. I am doing quite a bit better and mulling over purchases and quick to purge. It is fun, because we can wear anything but can impact finances. Good luck, have fun at goal and keep in perspective.
