A brand new reason to stay thin and healthy! (or how I became an instant grandma)
So, this is Asher. He's 2 and a half.
My children, who are adopted, have located 2 of their birth siblings over the years. One of them is Asher's mother. She is 26 and we have become very good friends over time. So long story short, she is living with us right now, with her son, while she goes to school in the area.
None of us was sure what he should call me. After all, my kids are his aunts and uncle. But I am not really his grandma, as his mom is not my daughter.
Well like most kids, he took the bull by the horns. I am grandma. No ifs, ands or buts. I have never had so much fun in my life walking the dog with him, taking him to the park, chasing him through the yard, tossing him around....
And when he takes off, which he does, I can catch him before he gets hurt.
I could have never done that at 300+ pounds. But at 161 (which is where I was yesterday, damn menopause), I can keep him safe and happy.
If anyone every doubted whether this surgery was for them, tell them my story. I am the happiest instant grandma alive... and a tiny bit sad that my own children were not able to get this version of me when they were little... but regret never got anyone anywhere.

Congratulations, Audrey, I'm so happy for you and what a gorgeous, handsome little boy!
I have a grandson from my biological son and two grandaughters from my stepson from my first marriage. We only reconnected 3 years ago (thank you FB) as we both changed our names to avoid the ex (his dad).
Both girls call me Nana Kim, which is what my grandson calls me too!

Congratulations. He is adorable. I love that he took the bull by the horns. So happy for all of you. We don't have to be blood related to be a grandma.
We all come together for a reason. Enjoy him. Even though you were not able to do the things with your kids. They will see what a good example you are with your new grandson. The gift of love and family is a great thing.
I never wanted to be a grandmother. Now I can't wait. Well maybe a few more years.
What a great NSV.

How adorable! It's wonderful that he feels that he wants to call you grandma.
I have a story that is somewhat related. Yesterday was my oldest son's 17th birthday. I drove him to the other side of town to visit his grandma. She is my ex mother in law, and we have always had a good relationship, even through the divorce with her son. This was the first time that my 2 year old got to meet her, and I introduced her as Grandma Sue. She is grandma to my oldest, and now a grandma to my youngest, even though they are not technically related. I count any positive adult role model in my children's lives to be a plus. I'm go glad that you have the health to be able to enjoy the little. It's such a wonderful NSV.
