What's On Your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?
on 8/23/16 9:31 am
Hi Everyone! I don't have time to read all of today's posts. But I am checking in anyway.
QOTD: I love the spring--the early spring--the melting snow, the smell of things waking up, etc. LOVE it. I also like fall, but spring is my hands-down favorite.
AMAW-C for me. And, I have to adapt and kind of drop out while still staying challenged.
Here's the deal: my husband grows a huge garden. HUUUUUUUUUUGE. It is kind of a love-turned-obsession. He picks and gives away gobs of produce daily. One of his saddest things from his childhood is how he grew a garden every summer (as a child!), and his mother would not use/eat what he grew. I now understand his poor mother: what mother can use the produce from 20 summer squash plants, 20 melon plants, 15 tomato plants, and other accompanying plants in similar volume: bell peppers, green beans, eggplant. Some things just cannot be preserved (canned zuchinni anyone?), and although I love the fresh produce, I did not sign on to spend all my time managing all this produce. In my marriage, there has always been tension around if I am using the fresh herbs and produce. I do try--honest! But how much can one family eat? Anyhow, this week everything in the garden is on in full force. For me to not eat anything, would be a deep wound to our marriage. Really--there are some deep things from his alcoholic-home childhood, and I have to eat vegetables this week. At least some.
So my goal for AMAW-C is to follow my surgical office's eating plan, which is 70/30, based on volume: 70% dense protein, 30% vegetable.
I did have a small slip up this morning: walking the dog, I noticed that our raspberries are on, and the grapes are starting to ripen. I ate about 10 raspberries and tested the grapes for sweetness before I realized I had branched out into fruit. Small, but definitely like the deer--grazing.
Anyhow, I will keep my commitment to the 70/30, and join you all by upping my commitment to careful eating, but I will not win the bacon crown! (Perhaps a zuchinni crown . . .)
Today:
B: Egg with ham and cheese and tomato
L: Salmon with summer squash sauted with bacon (leftover from last night--see how I add BACON?)
D: Hamburger patty with tomato, mustard, cucumber.
S: Lots of Crio Bru (my roasted cocoa coffee substitute), cheese, and parmesan/basil pesto. There is also some jerky in the fridge if I require it!
Hi all, yesterday was a success on AMAW-C for me, and I am down 2 lbs this morning, which is encouraging. I have a dinner to go to today that will be challenging, my M-I-L is cooking lasagne for hubbys birthday! I love it! But I have my meals planned so I will stay on track. I am taking pulled pork and a protein shake just in case. QOTD: Fall! Love the colors, football, Halloween!
