Differences in RNY vs lap band questions
Hello,
I will be having a revision surgery on 9/23 to remove my band that I've had since 2006 and revise to RNY. For those of you that have been through this, what differences have you noticed? I'm curious about the differences or similarities in.feeling that you get when you are full, or when you get stuck? Also, the consistency of tightness with the band has always been an issue with me, one day I'll be very tight and restricted and the next it can be like I don't have a band. Is that feeling of fullness more consistent? Any differences or similarities you've had I'd love to hear about. Thanks!

I had my band removed in March. I had the gastric sleeve done on July 28th. I have noticed that the feeling of fullness is a bit different. I haven't gotten "stuck" as was the norm for me and the band. I thru up for two years with the band. You do not want to over eat because you will feel too full and VERY uncomfortable. I am happy with my decision to do this.
So good to hear about not getting stuck. I just can't tolerate that anymore. Thanks for the info!

Everything is different (and oh so much better)!
Now when I feel full it's a recognizable "full" sensation, not pain. Don't get me wrong, it can still be painful, but with the band I started getting stuck and throwing up at bite #1. Now I only feel pain if I actually overeat--and that's hard to do.
Yes to the feeling of fullness being consistent, too. I do get hungry, now that I'm a year out, but it's different and manageable. For me, I felt hungry with the band because I was never able to eat the right foods to satisfy me. Now I truly think I could eat 10 times more than I ever could have with the band, but it's easy to eat the right foods now.
I was relying heavily on popcorn as my main food group when I was banded because most of the time it went down and stayed down, unlike the dense proteins they told us to eat.
This week I'm participating in the ALL MEAT ALL WEEK (AMAW) challenge, to take low carb to an extreme. I could never have done this with the band.
Since having my revision, I've thrown up three times, and the first two were very early out while I think I was still healing.
And if you have band-related GERD, you can say goodbye to that, too! I still take Omaprazole because I'm sensitive to coffee, but it's a billion times better than it was (just like everything).
I can't say enough happy things and I truly wish the best for you.

Thank you for that feed back. That was exactly what I was hoping for! I appreciate the help.

Everything JB said! I have thrown up more than that but I almost think it's because I was so conditioned to throw up with the band. Mine has mainly been with salmon or another sense protein that my pouch just cannot handle. A couple of times from not chewing well enough. Having said all that though, I can eat most anything as opposed to with the band. I could almost never keep down a solid protein with the band but depended heavily on slider type foods.
and the reflux was hell.
So glad I had RNY. And wish I had done it sooner!
