Stricture

Hi! I have a question on strictures (I think that's what it's called) Have any of you had them and if so what do they actually do when they do the "scope"? Do they put you under? Getting a little worried but I hear they are very common. I went to E.R. On Friday because I could not hold anything down (not even water) they did a cut scan and blood work and everything looked fine thank you God, but the Dr said because I was only 3 weeks he did not want to do the scope because of possibly tearing and he wanted to wait til I'm at least 4 weeks. Just wondering what I'm in for or is it just not a big deal.  Thanks so much :)

I had two - one at about six weeks out and a second about 10-12 weeks out.  They started out feeling a bit like GERD (after I ate) and then progressed to vomiting.  After a few days, I couldn't keep anything down except for fluids (and if I would have kept on, at some point, I wouldn't have even been able to keep fluids down, either).

the fix is super easy.  They just do an upper endoscopy and use this balloon thingie to stretch out your stoma a bit.  You're under anesthesia - I didn't feel a thing.  And I felt 100% better immediately after.

the PA at my surgeon's office said they happen to 5-8% of RNY patients.  And they almost always occur within the first three months after surgery.  I haven't had any trouble with them since (I'm 15 months out now)

It's pretty common. My mom had a stricture repaired a couple of months after her surgery.  You are totally knocked out for it...no need to worry!

Ok so I went to the Dr yesterday. Apparently the CT scan wasn't clear like ER said. Doc said I had some gall stones. He was furious that the Hospital that I had my surgery at didn't do an ultra sound at my pre-op over there because he said they are supposed to (he likes to just take out the gallbladder at the same time as surgery if there is anything wrong with it so he doesn't have to open you up twice) So anyways the Doc said it could be a stricture, ulcer or the gallbladder.  The hospital didn't have any beds yesterday so we wait and see how today goes. He says they will do an ultra sound and then do the scope and find out what they see and it could come out to having to have gallbladder surgery :/. Hoping it's just some thing simple.
