What's on your Monday Menu, RNYers? AMAW Day 1
Well last Tuesday was my maiden journey on my very unused, old, cheap bike that has sat in the garage for 7 years now and been used a total of probably 10 times... a pink and white Walmart special my kids bought me for Mother's Day way back when... we were riding up by the lake and I kept complaining about how it wasn't shifting right (and it wasn't!) when I was going up a VERY SLIGHT incline and tried to shift down, but then I lost all power and started going so slow that I went to stop... only I put my foot down on the edge of the concrete trail - into the grass - which was much lower... and I toppled right over (HAHAHA)... I have a nice gash on my ankle, not sure what I hit, but it's ugly... and a HUGE bruise on my right thigh, and another nice sized one higher up on my left hip It wasn't a hard fall, per say, but a pretty humiliating one for sure! Hubbie rode my bike back to the car, and he looked at it when we got home and decided I just needed a new bike.
We only went 5.6 miles, but I really think on a bike that had better gears I may have made it all the way around the lake, which is 10 miles... when we get back from Key West, we'll be taking my new bike up for a test run! I'm really excited about it. I really did enjoy myself, even with my crappy bike ;)

Oh no!! I've had several nasty crashes and they're just awful for the self-esteem, aren't they?
Anything that comes from Walmart can be referred to as a "BSO," or "bike-shaped object." I think they don't count! :-D
Working gears will make a HUGE difference! And if you ever have trouble with them, take them into a bike shop and they can adjust them for you, it doesn't take them long at all :)

Cool! I ride a trek bike too. Great bike & its so much lighter than my old Nishiki bike which is more of a back up bike now. Never thought I'd have a back up bike & even looking to get a fat tire Hellga bike now., hence all the crazy ot I've been doing lately.

I'm so jealous Julie! Last week I tried to ride a bike--I used to love it when I was young. But I couldn't do it because of my Neuropathy. Can't get my foot in the pedal fast enough to get going. I would have to have someone hold the bike so I could get my feet in the pedals and give me a push-off -- then I'd be fine. So I have to indulge myself and buy another recumbent bike like I had before.

Recumbents are great, I see a lot of people with them on our cycling trails around town. I've also seen a few large trikes, which are great if you need extra stability!

I've seen recumbent bikes out there too, kinda looks like you're sitting in a chair & its made for the road, kinda cool. Even saw some kind of souped up pedicab that was made for 1 person & it was this big enclosure type thing where you step in it & drive it like a car, but its a bike! You definitely wouldn't have to worry about the rain or too much sun.

We spent the weekend out of town for my daughter's birthday and despite eating out for 5 meals, I was able to stay on track, though I did have some strawberry shortcake - I brought the ingredients in a cooler, as that was what my daughter asked for instead of regular cake. It was sooo good!
My mother in law was very helpful - she split some meals with me and was very encouraging. My father in law was inspired by my weight loss and has lost 40 lbs since my surgery by doing the South Beach diet. The one thing I missed most on our trip was Sugar Free popsicles - which are a STAPLE to me and it turns out, I've hooked my father in law on them too! On the drive home (we all carpooled in his HUGE truck), we stopped at a grocery store and I bought a box of them and the 6 of us ate most of the box during the 2 hour drive - and no one drank soda, or even asked for one!!! This is a HUGE step for my family!
I'm supposed to do a clear liquid diet tomorrow in anticipation of my procedure for Wednesday but today I'm going to do some full liquids for lunch and dinner, in the hopes of making tomorrow easier on me and my "sit upon".
Breakfast: Coffee and Yoplait Plenti, peach
L: protein shake
D: protein shake
snack: protein shake and sugar free popsicles
Prior to my surgery, a day of food like this and what I'm facing tomorrow would have filled me with dread. But now... I'm just feeling neutral about it. It helps that while out of town, we stopped at our old home church and no one recognized me until my husband walked in behind me... and some of these people I talk to on Facebook almost daily - they've seen the photos! It felt REALLY good!

Good morning all!
Im so excited to begin AMAW. I have been on a bad streak lately between my birthday and vacation last week. I am ready to carb detox.
QOTD- My latest NSV would be being able to buy size 10 pants for the first time since before I got pregnant with my oldest son (he's 12). It's probably vanity sizing but I'm still going to enjoy it :)
menu for today-
B- black coffee with Miralax, 3oz of sirloin
L- 3-4oz of grilled chicken tenderloin with taco seasoning
S- 3 oz of deli roast beef
D- sautéed shrimp with Thai peanut sauce (I will make noodles to go with this for kids and hubby)
I hope I can be forgiven for the PP drink -- I use that as my cream in coffee since it has protein, albeit not perfect, but prefer it to milk. If I must be disqualified, I understand. Also hope you can forgive 6 cherry tomatoes with chicken because, well, tomato season. I'll still do my version of AMAW-C because it forced me to Plan, Prep, & these are my best numbers in a long time. Hope I can stick to it - at least my version of it. Thank you so much for coordinating, MC Daisy!
B - 2 coffees - used half a vanilla premier protein; turkey breast
S - HB egg
L - roast beef slices & cheese stick
